Samsung returns as supporter of country's premier league
MANILA, Philippines - Global electronics leader Samsung has reaffirmed its commitment to youth sports, coming in as chief backer of the UAAP season for the 10th straight year.
“Samsung is proud to contribute to the 73rd Season of the UAAP in celebrating youth, sports and learning. We firmly believe that excellence in sports and the genuine spirit of winning can be a unifying force that will break down barriers and foster greater friendships and understanding among youth of the different universities,” said Benjie Jimenez, head of marketing, Samsung Electronics Philippines Corp.
“Sports is unique in its contribution to unifying people of different ages, races, and gender,” he said. “Basketball in particular fosters unparalleled team spirit and camaraderie among individuals and that is why we are very honored to once again be a sponsor of UAAP.”
A loyal partner of the UAAP since 2001, Samsung has been a consistent supporter of key international sporting events for almost 20 years.
The official club sponsor of the Chelsea Football Club, Samsung has sponsored the Olympic Games and Asian Games. This August, the global electronics leader will extend support to the Youth Olympic Games.
“The support of sporting events is a cornerstone of the company’s marketing and communications strategy,” said SEPCO president and CEO KC Park. “As such, sports sponsorships play an important role of elevating brand recognition while demonstrating Samsung’s dedication as a corporate citizen in key markets.”
Here’s the news that will have cheerleaders in the 73rd University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) doing cartwheels – as a returning proud partner of this season’s UAAP, Samsung will award one Samsung Champ, the latest touch phone from Samsung, per cheerleader from the winning school and a Samsung dual LCD camera for the “Stunner of the Day” during the cheerleading competition slated in September.
For Jimenez, the opportunity to help students excel through sports is reward enough for them.
“We have seen young talents in the UAAP climb up to the professional league or the national team,” he said. “We are proud to be a part of their journey.”
