The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – The proponents of the Mangrove Reforestation Project in Puerto Galera Bay led by Hubert d’Aboville of D’Aboville Foundation and Puerto Galera Most Beautiful Bay, Inc. in a joint project with Locsin Group of Companies represented by marine biologist, Danny Enriquez conducted a community planting of mangroves along the shores of Puerto Galera Bay last Oct. 3. ?

This project was participated by eight planters from Locsin Group of Companies led by Danny Enriquez and Engr. Bernard Sangel; eight planters from D’Aboville Foundation led by Hubert d’Aboville and Ara d’Aboville; 12 planters from New Galeran Business Cooperative (NGBCC) led by chairwoman Jeneth Enriquez; and 25 planters from Puerto Galera Academy led by the principal Cenon Argo.

The participants planted 2,000 mangrove propagules along Muelle Cove, the southern part of Puerto Galera Bay, which was named as one the most beautiful bays in the world by the international organization Club Des Plus Belles Baies Du Monde (Club of the Most Beautiful Bays in The World) based in Paris, France in 2005.

The objective of this project is to reforest the area in order to prevent further soil erosion and siltation. Siltation is one of the causes of the death of sea grass and coral community especially the Acropa Puerto Galerae,a beautiful coral species that was first recognized and identified in Puerto Galera. This project also aims to enhance the greening of the area for aesthetic beauty of the surroundings to entice more tourists.
