FINDING REFUGE AND STRENGTH - Dr. Harold J. Sala - The Philippine Star

Jesus was no weak-kneed sissy with lace on his handkerchief. Remember that he grew up working in a carpenter’s shop. His hands were strong, his biceps well-developed. He was an outdoors type of person. No “mamma’s boy’ would pick up a cudgel (probably a whip used to drive livestock) and run the money changers out of the temple. Jesus was manly, yet He was totally at ease with women who were considered inferiors in that day. As a man of quality, Jesus was never intimidated or threatened by women of quality.

He spoke the plain, unvarnished truth. Never did He play the grandstand or hold a moist finger to the wind of public opinion, as politicians the world over are apt to do before they take a position on a moral issue.

It is interesting to note that the enemies of Jesus were the ones who bore the strongest and most explicit testimony to His character. The Pharisees constantly sought to discredit Jesus. “They sent their disciples to him along with the Herodians,” says Matthew.  “‘Teacher,’ they said, ‘we know you are a man of integrity and that you teach the way of God in accord with the truth. You aren’t swayed by men, because you pay no attention to who they are’” (Matthew 22:16).

When the North Koreans captured General William Dean, he was permitted to write one letter home. He wrote to his son to whom he said, “Bill, remember that integrity is the most important thing of all. Let it always be your aim.”

Strive to let His character be reflected by your life. The world will see the difference.
