4th Tsinoy National Convention: Shared destiny, building new bridges
MANILA, Philippines - The 4th Tsinoy National Convention kicks off on Nov. 30 with a keynote address by Solita “Mareng Winnie” Monsod, professor emerita of UP Diliman and convenor of the Philippine Human Development Network.
As an educator and economist, Monsod’s speech is expected to inspire the young leaders who will participate in the convention.
The 2-day youth convention, with the theme “Shared Destiny, Building New Bridges,” aims to guide the next generation of youth leaders to become advocates of oneness, tolerance, mutual respect, and positive change among different communities of the country.
In addition to the keynote address, the convention will also be enriched by conversations between the youth and Tsinoy exemplars from different fields including math professor Queena Lee-Chua, ethnopharmacologist Dr. Isidro Sia, and award-winning designer Kenneth Cobonpue.
Other highlights of the conference are fora on various Tsinoy-run programs and projects on cultural heritage, health, education, livelihood, and sustainable development; a study tour on heritage and social development and immersion in selected communities in Manila; and a creative workshop on exploring universal values and coming up with entries for “Ideas Out of the Box,” a competition which aims to promote harmony between the ethnic Chinese and other Filipinos.
