Honoring teachers through health and wellness

MANILA, Philippines - The First Pacific Leadership Academy (FPLA) hosted a medical outreach that saw teachers getting their health checked by some of the best doctors in the country and even given a “day-off” that included free foot spa treatments, facials, haircut and other treats that were availed of by 450 mentors from District 1B of Antipolo City.

The event was held in partnership with the Makati Medical Center (MMC) and the Meralco Corporate Wellness Center (CWC), as a concluding activity in celebration of Teacher’s month last October. The medical outreach was held so that teachers would have the opportunity to undergo health diagnostics and therapeutic and wellness experiences. Companies like the Belo Medical Group, Vivere Corporation (makes of Caronia nail polish), Wellness Pro, Gardenia Breads, San Miguel Corporation, Antipolo Haircutters, Waters Philippines and Pinoy Hilot also provided services, logistic support and giveaways to those who attended the event.

The whole-day activity involved doctors and medical staff of the MMC and 14 nursing and pharmaceutical staff from the Meralco CWC, providing free check-ups and diagnostic exams such as blood pressure monitoring, gluco tests, dermatological and gynecological exams and learning sessions to the teachers who attended. Desiree Vivas, senior nurse at the Meralco CWC, saw the event as providing a holistic approach to health and wellness.

“Teacher are always at risk, being exposed to many people every day. They can be prone to infectious diseases, age-related illnesses and occupational stresses that come with their profession. We at the MMC find this medical outreach unique since we are helping a special sector of the society and FPLA is there to provide logistics and materials to make the entire endeavor complete and effective,” Dr. Dan Luchangco, Makati Medical Center’s team leader for the event, explained.

The First Pacific Leadership Academy is formerly known as the Meralco Development Center. It is located at Km. 26, Sumulong Highway, Antipolo City.
