Summer Writing Workshop for Children

Creative writing classes for children and young adults aged 8 to 18 on the first week of April, at Windsor Tower, 163 Legaspi Street, Legaspi Village, Makati.

The workshop includes techniques in discovering and strengthening one’s writing style and applying this style in various forms of communication. The workshop tackles essay, feature, journalism, short story writing and playwriting.

NJEL DE MESA’s free song & dance Summer Workshop

Underprivileged kids from 6 to 18 years old will have the opportunity to experience summer with free song and dance workshop conducted by Njel de Mesa. Lopez Museum’s Foldabots Art Workshop

The Lopez Memorial Museum is offering a Foldabots art workshop on May 8, 15 and 22.

Jomikwe Tejido will teach participants the creative process of conceptual design, prototype construction, and final art of making Foldabots – cutout cardboard robots that turn into cars and animals.

Participants hone not just their drawing skills but also spatial relations, basic paper engineering and strength of forms, basic 3D drawing, character design and descriptive writing. The final product will be a craft book compilation of the participants’ works.

2011 Philippine Buddhist Youth Conference

Aims to educate young people aged 15 to 35 on how to be proactive in spiritual and environmental preservation. Conference will be held on April 28 to May 1 at Fo Guang Shan Mabuhay Temple (656 Pablo Ocampo Street, Malate, Manila) and at Camp Allen Training & Development Center (National Highway, Barangay Patimbao, Sta. Cruz, Laguna). Activities include survival games, challenges on spiritual preservation, scavenger hunts, and group exhibits on environmental protection.

Kid’s Kitchen Camp

Kid’s Kitchen Camp is open to all youngsters ages 7 to 12 years old who are interested to learn cooking and baking while meeting new friends. First batch is on April 6 to 8 while the second batch will have their session on April 13 to 15. Sessions will be held from 1 pm to 4:30 pm at the San Miguel Purefoods Culinary Center, Legaspi cor. Eagle Streets, Barrio Ugong, Pasig City.

The photography experts

Photography encourages us to discover new places, express new feelings, and create fond memories in an enjoyable way. This April, The Alcove offers Learn from the Photography Experts travel photography workshop on April 26, 28 and May 3 with a photo trip on April 30.

The workshop will deal with the essentials of travel photography, photojournalistic style, the no-photo-editing philosophy, and caring for your camera and other equipment.

Gunther Deichmann, a multi-awarded Australian photographer, will facilitate the workshop.

Digital Photography 101 is also offered on April 9 and 17, with a photo shoot on April 16.

Young Chef’s Boot Camp this summer

The Center for Culinary Arts (CCA, Manila), offers a one-of-a-kind summer program that aims to mold children to become future “chef-preneurs.” The Young Chef’s Boot Camp (YCBC) is a certificate program designed for kids, aged 10 to 16 years old.

Starting on April 4 until May, there will be five-day courses under its YCBC program. Young Upstarts course for children aged 7 to 10 years old.

For those aged 10 to 16, the courses offered are: Western Flavors; Asian Flavors; Baking and Pastry 101 and Advance Cooking & Baking.

First batch of classes will be from April 4 to 8 (Mondays to Fridays); from 1 to 5 pm at CCA Manila’s main campus along Katipunan Avenue.

Museo Pambata’s Art’s Cool

Art’s Cool is Museo Pambata’s summer workshop program for kids, teens, and adults who want to develop potentials in various fields of art while having fun.

In the Basic Art class, kids 4 to 7 years old learn about drawing, crafts, model making, and installation art, facilitated by children’s book illustrator Hubert Fucio.

Art Spot, Art Stuff is an art workshop for kids 8 to 14 years old, where they can learn advanced painting, mixed media, and sculpture, as well as discover other forms of visual art through museum and gallery visits, facilitated by Marc Vincent Cosico, a teacher at the Philippine High School for the Arts.

Children’s Musical Theater is facilitated by Sipat Lawin’s J.K. Anicoche and Abner Delina.

Kids 8 to 12 years old can learn how to write and publish their stories in a Creative Writing workshop with Genaro Gojo Cruz, a Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature awardee.

Adults can hone their skills in telling stories in a one-day Storytelling Workshop, facilitated by actor Bodjie Pascua. Parents can also spend more time with their children while making art in the Parent and Child Art Workshops, which will be facilitated by Mitzi Marie Reyes, a founding member of Ang Ilustrador ng Kabataan (Ang INK).

All classes will start in April, except for the Storytelling and Parent and Child Art Workshops, which will both start in May.
