FDCP launches Emir essay writing contest

-

MANILA, Philippines - The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) is launching an essay writing contest in line with the movie Emir.

The FDCP envisions the film to improve the general perception of OFWs and considers education as an important avenue for this change. The essay writing contest is open to all students from grade 4 to 4th year college.

Grade school students should write a 200-word essay answering the question, “What did you learn about OFWs in the movie Emir?“ Prizes are P15,000 (first prize), P10,000 (second prize), and P5,000 (third prize). The winning student’s principal or duly appointed representative will also get P10,000 (first prize), P5,000 (second), and P2,500 (third).

High school students are tasked to write a 700-word paper on how the movie helps promote the heroism and dignity of OFWs and gives them a better image. Winners get P20,000 (first prize), P15,000 (second), and P10,000 while principals or representatives of the winning students likewise receive a prize.

For both grade school and high school categories, principals/headmasters must select only the top five entries of their respective schools to be submitted for judging.

College students should write a 1000-word critique focusing on how the movie relates to the adage “The hand the rocks the cradle, rules the world.“ What implications about Filipino society does the movie present? First prize winner receives P30,000, while second and third placers win P20,000 and P15,000 respectively.

Entries must be in 12pt Times New Roman, 1.5 spacing, justified. Contestants must also submit scanned copies of their student ID and an endorsement letter from their principal. Each contestant is allowed to submit only one entry. Essay can be in either English or Filipino.

Entries must be submitted via email to [email protected]. Deadline for submission is June 25, while the announcement of winners will be made on July 16.

For inquiries and complete rules and requirements, call 484-9864 or visit the FDCP office at 20th floor, Centerpoint Building, Julia Vargas Avenue corner Garnet Road, Ortigas Center, Pasig City.
