MANILA, Philippines - Ballet Philippines treated public school students last Oct. 25 to Tales of the Manuvu, the pop-rock opera-ballet written by National Artist for Literature Bienvenido Lumbera, as its way of supporting ongoing trauma alleviation programs that help children restore normalcy in their lives via activities that provide respite after a calamity.
The school children were transported to and from their school to CCP to watch the critically acclaimed ballet, and also treated to a free meal and a ‘meet and greet’ with the colorful cast of dancers. The dance company also donated part of the proceeds from ticket sales of Manuvu for the rehabilitation of homes destroyed by typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng (in collaboration with Habitat for Humanity).
As a Christmas gift, Ballet Philippines will continue this noteworthy initiative as the dance company seeks sponsors for public school children to watch The Nutcracker. It only takes P350, inclusive of the show, transportation and a meal, to heal a heart and share the magic.
Catch The Nutcracker and spread the joy on Dec. 3 & 6 at 10 am and 3 pm; Dec. 4 & 5 at 3 and 8 pm; and Dec. 12 at 10 am, 3 and 8 pm, at the CCP Main Theater Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo. To sponsor a child, call Ballet Philippines at 551.0221 or 551.1003.
