Knowing the Lord or the language
“Tell me about how you came to faith in Christ,” I asked an elderly gentleman in his 80s. At this question, his eyes fell to the ground. He softly said, “I hate to admit this, but I’ve never really become a Christian. I joined the church and served on every board and committee there is but I could never bring myself to admit that I was a sinner and needed to be saved.” This man knew the language, he knew the songs, he also knew the workings of a church but he didn’t know Him who told Peter that upon the confession that He was the Lord, He would build His church.
If you don’t want to come to the end knowing about Jesus Christ but not knowing Him personally, then you need to learn what you need to do to become God’s child and make peace with God.
Three simple steps will bring you to His open arms.
Step 1: Realize that you need to be saved.
Step 2: Believe that Jesus Christ is God’s provision to pay the penalty of your sins, and that He died for you. As Paul puts it, “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Corinthians 5:21).
Step 3: Believe that God will honor His promise of forgiveness. John 1:12 says, “To all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.”
Make sure, friend, that you are not among those who know a lot about churches but don’t know Him who gave birth to the Church.
