Underneath are the everlasting arms

"The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged." Deuteronomy 31:8
"The eternal God is your refuge," says Deuteronomy 33:27, "and underneath are the everlasting arms." And what does that mean? Obviously, the first part means that God, who is without beginning or end, will always be a refuge, one to whom you can turn in times of trouble or difficulty. But what does that second phrase, "underneath are the everlasting arms" really mean? "Underneath," says George Stormont, a British-born pastor now approaching his tenth decade, means "underneath". No matter how low you are, God will still be there beneath you, to support you and lift you up.
He is underneath your lowest emotions and your darkest night. What was the lowest point of your life? The day the doctor said you had a cancer? God made a promise. Hes the One who is honor-bound to keep His Word.
God will always be underneath your deepest loss. Beneath your loss is the firm hand of God, which can take the broken pieces of your life or business and put them back together again. God specializes in this sort of thing, and Hes had lots and lots of experience doing it, too.
Underneath your most shameful act the everlasting arms are still there to pick you up and to re-establish your feet. There is a big difference between discipline and punishment. Because God loves you, He allows the circumstances of life to discipline you, and then helps you to understand how you have gone astray, like the sheep Isaiah spoke of long ago. And then His strong handsthe ones which kept you from destructionwill pick you up, smooth away the hurt and pain, and help you get up on your feet again.
Maybe your most shameful act is something known only to yourself and to God. Or its possible that masses of people have read about it in the newspaper. Whether it be little or much, Gods grace covers the wrong, and His forgiveness will make the difference.
The promises of God are not reserved for a handful of saints ready for immediate promotion to heaven. The good news is that God plays no favorites. Thank God! Underneath are the everlasting arms. They are underneath your lowest emotion, your deepest loss and your most shameful act. Mark that great promise found in Deutoronomy 33 in your Bible. And put your name on it.
