What do you hope for in 2025?

How else can we better welcome the New Year than with hope in our hearts. Hope makes us dream a dream. And dream some more.

Hope makes us believe in better and safer days to come. It is the prayer of the heart, the plea of the soul. It makes us believe in the impossible. It makes us subscribe to new beginnings. It makes us prosper in love. Hope makes our faith more intense. It makes us walk the path of God.

Hope delivers us from angst and agitation. Hope humbles us as well as fortifies us. It is the pinwheel that spins solutions to the problems. And when push comes to shove and the problems become unsolvable, hope makes us manage the unmanageable, the same way it gives meaning to the mundane.

Hope is the cap to our restlessness. Hope is the tenderness of security, the happiness of peace. It is the Energizer Bunny to the spirit that has known desolation and despair. It is the balm to the soul that’s broken. Hope mends. Hope heals. Hope wins.

Let’s hear it from some personalities what they hope for in the New Year.

Fr. Dave Concepcion, chaplain of Sto. Niño de Paz (Greenbelt Chapel)

Someone said, every night we go to bed without any assurance of being alive the next morning, but still we set alarms to wake up. That is hope. What are my hopes in 2025?

- That people with different faiths will be able to live in harmony.

- That families will bring back Christ in their home.

- That children bring back respect to parents.

- That we will have politicians who will really serve and not just enrich themselves.

Secretary Sonny Angara, Department of Education

I’m hoping for more people to think about and prioritize education, given our demographic of having a young population while the world is aging. It’s a golden opportunity for the Philippines for the next few years to invest in our young people.

Ryan Cayabyab, National Artist for Music

My hope for 2025 is that Filipinos continue to appreciate and support Filipino music. And to add to that, to support the people who truly have the heart, mind and spirit to serve the people.Huwag magpabudol. Para ‘yan lahat sa kinabukasan ng mgasusunod na henerasyong Pilipino! Kaunlaran para sa lahat.Hindi para sa iilan.

Alice Reyes, National Artist for Dance

We just finished a Visayas tour of the ARDP’s (Alice Reyes Dance Philippines’) full length Filipino Christmas ballet, Pusong Pasko.

We were all amazed at the incredible reaction of audiences everywhere, from grade school and high school students, to teachers and town employees and adult citizens. They would not leave their seats long after the show had ended, as if wanting to hold on to what they had just seen and experienced for as long as they could. It showed how hungry communities are out in the regions for artistic productions of high caliber.

I am thankful to the following for sponsoring the performances: Sen. Loren Legarda and Antique Rep. AA Legarda and Culasi, Antique Mayor Jose Jeffrey Lomugdang; TESDA Secretary Kiko Benitez and Victorias City Mayor Javi Benitez; and Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Trenas in partnership with the officers of the Iloilo Festival Foundation.

So for 2025, I hope for more and more enlightened local government officials who will put funds into artistic and cultural projects and productions on a regular basis. Dance, music, theater are all so vital and so essential to uplifting the spirits of the Filipino.

Marian Rivera-Dantes, award-winning actress

In 2025, I hope for a year filled with love, growth, and positive opportunities in my career and personal life. I want to continue nurturing my family and creating beautiful memories. Most importantly, I wish for a world that embraces kindness and unity, where we can all uplift one another. Together, we can make a meaningful impact. Para mas maraming masaya sa mundongpuno ng pagmamahal.

Michael Leyva, fashion designer

In 2025, I plan to focus on creating new and innovative collections that promote Filipino talent and Filipino culture. I also want to explore new markets and bring my brand to an international audience. Hopefully, collaborating with other creatives and working on meaningful projects will be a key part of my year, along with continuing to refine my skills and explore new techniques. It will also be a year to give back to the community and share our blessings to others.

Anj Atienza, award-winning screenwriter of Firefly

I hope to be more present in the moment, to be more intentional with time. I hope for good health for all my loved ones, and for life to slow down a little in 2025. I hope to do better, to give more.
