Eat right & eat well

The newest Century Tuna endorsers Gerald Anderson, Paulo Avelino and Matteo Guidicelli.

In keeping with the sizzling summer season, Century Tuna presented its latest endorsers — Gerald Anderson, Matteo Guidicelli and Paulo Avelino — during the launch of “My Recipe to Sexy” campaign at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel.

At the beach-themed event, the latest endorsers, who are featured in the tuna brand’s newest summer TVC, gamely demonstrated how to make their favorite easy-to-prepare dishes — Tuna Egg Salad Sandwich a la Matteo, Tuna Pancit Canton a la Paulo and Tuna Silog a la Gerald.

Century Pacific Food Inc. VP and general manager Greg Banzon said, “We’ve been thinking of ways to encourage people that there’s more about Century Tuna. With this campaign, we showed that the brand is as versatile as our three new endorsers, that there are more than the usual ways to prepare Century Tuna, which are still healthy, delicious and easy.”

With Century Tuna’s “My Recipe to Sexy,” you can eat well and eat right.

Sole-ful milestones

Global footwear brand Bata marked two milestones in Manila with the launch of its Spring/Summer 2017 collection and the opening of its second store in the Philippines at SM City Bacoor in Cavite.

Bata’s Global CEO Alexis Nasard flew in to grace both events, indicating how the brand continues to expand its footwear legacy of manufacturing quality and innovative shoes in what he calls “a dream market... because it has everything it takes for businesses like ours to be successful.”

Celebrating Bata’s milestones were Asia-Pacific region president Roberto Longo, CFO Alberto Toni, chief personnel officer Davide Zornetta and regional finance director for Asia, Africa and Latin America Shaibal Sinha.

The brand’s Spring/Summer collection was showcased at the Palace Pool Club in Taguig City with a summer party and fashion show. Shoes were the stars of the night — the All That Glitters, Classy, Coachella, In Full Bloom, Pretty Pastels and Summer Glam lines for women; as well as the Boy-Next-Door and Sorrento styles for men.

The shoe brand’s opening at SM City Bacoor signaled its further expansion in the country through its partnership with SM Retail. Czech Ambassador Jaroslav Olsa Jr. led guests to a shoe shopping experience.

Bata has grown to be a leading footwear manufacturer and retailer in the world, operating in over 70 countries with over 5,000 stores and sells over one million pairs of shoes a day. It is established in 1894 by siblings Tomas, Anna and Antonin Bata in Zin, Czechoslovakia. (Almost one century after the company was formed, Czechoslovakia dissolved into Czech Republic and Slovak Republic in 1993.)

Bring your dreams to the big screen

A movie is not just an opportunity to escape reality. For many filmmakers, it’s also their means to communicate a message, and to bring relevant issues to the big screen.

Helping aspiring filmmakers to better express themselves through the medium, First Pacific Leadership Academy (FPLA), the first corporate university established by chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan, in partnership with film director Lemuel “Lem” Lorca, hosts the first filmmaking workshop “Ang Pelikula: Cinema Art & You” on May 17 and 24.

The workshop covers the fundamentals of filmmaking, and guides participants through the process of developing a story, pitching a deal, writing the screenplay and developing the shooting script.

Film technique and aesthetics in directing will be the main focus of the workshop. Direk Lem will also be discussing other important elements such as the selection of crew, production design and other tips to consider when casting. Topics such as picture editing, musical scoring and composition — integral parts in the filmmaking process — will also be tackled.

Direk Lem is the young visionary known for his highly acclaimed films: Intoy Shokoy ng Kalye Marino (2012), Water Lemon (2015) and Ned’s Project (2016). Ned’s Project won Best Picture at the 2016 Cinefilipino Film Festival, while the others were nominated for Best Picture: Intoy Shokoy for the Best Film-New Breed at Cinemalaya 2012; Water Lemon for Best Picture at Cinema International Festival (2015) and Mauban: Ang Resiko for Best Picture at the QCinema International Film Festival (2014).

The whole-day workshop (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) is open to all participants. Two classes will be hosted at First Pacific Leadership Academy at Km. 27, Sumulong Highway, Antipolo City, on May 17 and 24.
