Around the World in Small Plates

THE PEPPER MILL - Pepper Teehankee - The Philippine Star

The Lifestyle Network once again hosted a charity dinner event dubbed “Around the World in Small Plates” to support ICanServe Foundation and raise funds for the foundation’s various projects on breast cancer awareness.

Held at The Tent at Enderun in Taguig City, the event, now on its third year, saw food lovers feast on cuisines from around the world brought by in-demand chefs and restaurateurs for one night.

Lifestyle Network head Tippy Benedito said, “For the third time, Lifestyle partnered with ICanServe Foundation to support the advocacy in raising awareness on breast cancer.”

The roster of chefs and restaurateurs who took part in “Around the World in Small Plates” included Lifestyle’s homegrown chefs Sharwin Tee, Jonas Ng, Ed Bugia and Cynthia Patos, premier Pinoy chefs Claude Tayag of Bale Dutung, Gene and Gino Gonzalez of Café Ysabel, Robby Goco of Cyma and Green Pastures, Dedet de la Fuente of Pepita’s Lechon and JP Anglo of Kafe Batwan and Sarsa. Renowned international chefs Josh Boutwood of the Bistro Group, Him Uy de Baron of I Am Kim and Cocina Peruvia, and Chele Gonzalez of Gallery Vask also united for the special dinner for a cause.

“Around the World in Small Plates” started in 2012 with an 18-course dinner menu of specials served in small plates. The first event was attended by 300 guests who supported ICanServe Foundation. This year, I had the chance to try 28 food stations but with all the good food during the event, it’s sad to say I had to give up at the 18th station!

Brazilian nights

Over the years, the Philippines has been a second home to Brazilian models who wanted to try their luck in the Philippine fashion industry.

Paradis Manila, the newest luxury nightspot in Makati City, formally opened its Brazilian Squad Tuesday recently to provide its guests with a different kind of clubbing experience.  This party was exclusively hosted by Brazilian models, the usual faces we see in fashion magazines.

Some of the sought-after Brazilian DJs who took the decks were Italo Laurenthie, Romeo Calvacante and Gustavo Krier.  In the future, more Brazilian DJs are expected to play for the Squad Tuesday.

Check out the beautiful Tuesday crowd only at Paradis Manila, which is the renovated former nightspot Palladium at the basement of New World Makati Hotel.
