Sweet Ann’s day

OH YES, IT'S JOHNNY! - Johnny Litton - The Philippine Star

Lawyer Rene Puno recently hosted a lovely birthday dinner for his charming wife Ann at their cozy Alabang home.  Their three children Renee, Yago and Luis were on hand to help entertain guests that included Bukidnon Gov. Joe Zubiri and his lovely wife Vicky, former Camarines Sur governor LRay Villafuerte and wife Lara, fashion designer Christian Espiritu and Marivic Vazquez.

Everyone enjoyed a sumptuous meal that featured Ann’s sought-after homemade chicken relleno and lots of champagne and exquisite wine. It was a most enjoyable party, filled with warmth and  good humor.

Many happy returns to our dear Ann!

Pilgrimage of friends

There is always fun involved when stepping out with the ever genial hostess Minerva Tanseco even on a pilgrimage to the provinces of Laguna and Batangas. Minerva joined the ladies of Zonta Manila and “Everybody’s Group” in saying their prayers to St. Padre Pio in Santo Tomas, Batangas and to St. Anthony in Pila, Laguna.

A festive lunch awaited the women at the Ongpauco’s Isdaan Floating Resto-Fun Park, which has become popular for its food and the singing and dancing cooks and waiters. After the sumptuous lunch, it was shopping galore at Liliw for the town’s  famous footwear.

The ladies definitely had a grand time!

Friends indeed

Lovable and hardworking philanthropist Alice Briones was recently honored by her friends from the Mother Butler Mission Guilds (MBMG) and her former classmates in Assumption Convent in two separate events.

In lieu of birthday gifts, Alice’s generous friends made donations to support the projects of the MBMG. Set to celebrate its 60th anniversary in the country, the MBMG counts assisting underprivileged Catholic seminarians, priests and other very poor churches in the provinces among its apostolate.

A devoted daughter pays tribute to her dad with words no other citation can equal. Here’s Ivi Avellana-Cosio’s ode to her father, National Artist Lamberto Vera Avellana, who made the award-winning films Anak Dalita and Badjao. JRR

My father, Lamberto Vera Avellana, would have celebrated his 100th birthday today, Feb. 12. (He died on April 25, 1991).

“Sleep well, Beloved, sleep and take thy rest,

Lay down thy head upon thy Saviour’s breast,

We loved thee well, but Jesus loves thee best,

Good night until the morning.

We miss you so, Pappy.”
