Charming magical treat

THE PEPPER MILL - Pepper Teehankee - The Philippine Star

Pandora’s Autumn/Winter 2014 collection launch at the SM Mega Fashion Hall recently was a feast for the senses!

Upon entering the venue, guests were transported to a magical forest with trees that stood tall and strong. Music filled the venue as an interpretative dance by the Philippine Ballet Theater set the stage for an introduction to the new collection.

Each piece in the collection is designed to tell the modern tale of femininity. The collection boasts of textured and feminine rings, earrings, charms and pendants, which can be styled with other pieces crafted from sterling silver, 14K gold, colored enamel and cubic zirconia.

“The heroine of our tale is a young lady named Pandora,” storyteller Menchu Lauchengco Yulo narrated to the audience. But this Pandora, she said, wasn’t the same as the mythical character who opened a box of the world’s woes. The Pandora in the story was a sheltered woman who sought to live her own adventures, and found her place in the world. Brave and courageous, Pandora took to the magical path in the woods to start her journey where she would meet characters who would contribute to precious moments in her life.

Each chapter of Pandora’s journey is rewarded with beautiful charms that circle her wrist. Each charm in the story represents a series in the Autumn/Winter collection.

(Pandora is available at Greenbelt 5, Glorietta 4, Bonifacio High Street Central, Newport Mall at Resorts World Manila, Shangri-La Mall East Wing, The Podium, Elemento in Aura Mall, Megamall Expansion and Century City Mall. For more information, visit www.pandora.net.)

Make a statement for a cause

Movies have been chosen, bands are ready to play and exciting outdoor activities are all set for the much-awaited second  CinemaJam, the country’s first-ever outdoor movie and music festival slated on Nov. 29 at the Greenfield District Central Park in Mandaluyong City.

Making a bolder statement this year, Crizal Transitions announced that CinemaJam 2014 will witness the unveiling of the first and only photochromic lens in the iconic shade of green called Crizal Transitions Signature Green.

At the media launch, marketing manager for Essilor (exclusive distributor of Crizal Transitions) Jinky Navo said, “CinemaJam 2014, with its theme ‘Make a statement,’ goes beyond fun and excitement. It aims to promote the importance of good eyesight and positivity through a celebration of arts, music and camaraderie, alongside the launch of our latest product.”

The outdoor movie and music festival promises to be more spectacular with a whole-day line up of activities and events including zip-line and wall climbing during daytime, to be followed by an outdoor movie screening, down to a midnight jam finale.

More than a day of festivity, CinemaJam 2014 aims to touch more lives as it supports the humanitarian organization World Vision. Essilor general manager Dr. Emelita Roleda said, “We are very excited to share brighter horizons with the beneficiaries of World Vision and we hope to touch more lives in the upcoming years.”

Lighting the runway ‘Red’

Renowned Filipino designer Jesus “Jojie” Lloren’s creations  will soon light up the runway for a cause.

At the Red Charity Gala fashion show 2014 media launch held recently at Sage Restaurant and Bar of the Makati Shangri-La Hotel, Lloren talked about “(some) National Artists as muses” for the theme of this year’s runway show. He said, “My collection will be inspired by the paintings of masters like Juan Luna and Félix Resurrección Hidalgo and National Artists including Fernando Amorsolo, Victorio Edades and Vicente Manansala. I want to translate the meanings of their paintings in the best possible way and let the clothes speak for themselves.”

Red Charity Gala initiators Tessa Prieto-Valdes and Kaye Tinga expressed their excitement at working with a local, yet internationally-recognized Filipino talent like Lloren.

Tessa said, “In the previous years, the Red Charity Gala had efficiently raised funds for the Philippine Red Cross and Assumption High School Batch 1981 by featuring Dubai-based designers. But now that the spotlight is on the impeccable artistry of a Filipino designer, we expect to have a more successful fundraising event for the benefit of our dearest typhoon Yolanda survivors in Samar.”

Kaye added, “With your continuous support, we strongly believe in the positive outcome of the Red Charity Gala 2014, and we hope to touch more lives in the coming years.”

The launch also saw key persons who helped in making the show possible including Rustan’s marketing communications head Dina Tantoco, Sun Life senior PR manager Mariquit Lintag and Melissa Borbon, P&G’s Joy Mabanta, Downy country brand manager Nicole Villarojo and Makati Shangri-La general manager Alain Borgers and director of communications Lesley Anne Tan.

The Red Charity Gala 2014 is directed by Ariel Lozada, with fashion styling by Noel Manapat and hair and makeup by Patrick Rosas. It is presented by Downy and Sun Life, supported by Bench, Megaworld, Makati Shangri-La among others.

(The Red Charity Gala 2014 is on Oct. 18 at the Rizal Ballroom of Makati Shangri-La. For inquiries, contact Maggie Gineta
