A foodie haven in San Juan City

THE PEPPER MILL - Pepper Teehankee - The Philippine Star

San Juan City’s newest and most talked about food destination has officially opened its doors to the public. Thanks to the managing investors of Sevenplates Inc. for venturing on a modern and traditional Filipino buffet restaurant called Guevarra’s.

The former residence is now a restaurant, which still has the feel of an old Filipino mansion. The buffet changes daily and offers a wide array of Filipino cuisine.

The grand opening, hosted by Bobby Yan, had a welcome dance by the Sanglahi Dance Troupe. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was led by San Juan City Mayor Guia Gomez together with Vice Mayor Francis Zamora and Sen. JV Ejercito.

Teresa Macasaet-Jesudason and Evangeline Lim, two of the former owners of the establishment now housing the popular buffet destination, were also present during the event.

Guests were welcomed by Chef Laudico Group executive chef Roland Laudico and executive pastry chef and CEO Jacqueline Laudico.

The grand opening also marked the launch of the month-long exhibit entitled Time Taken By Brush Strokes by artist Vincent Padilla. After imparting a brief message, he completed a portrait of chefs Roland and Jacqueline in front of the guests. The paintings showcased were made available for sale during and after the event. Three pieces were auctioned off with the proceeds donated to the San Juan City chapter of the Philippine Red Cross. Assisting with the auction were Miss Philippines Earth 2013 winners: Miss Philippines Earth Angelee Claudett Delos Reyes, Miss Philippines Eco-Tourism Bernadette Aguirre, Miss Philippines Fire Alma Cabasal and Miss Philippines Air Kimverlyn Suiza. Guests were also entertained by X Factor Philippines finalist Mark Mabasa and young pianist Cezanne Padilla.

Others present were Mandaluyong City Councilor Charisse Abalos, San Juan City Councilor Angelo Agcaoili, Cindy Ejercito, Kat de Castro, Paco Evangelista, Thou Reyes, Myrza Sison, Mia Cruz, Tisha Angluben, Angel Constantino, Red Cross-San Juan’s Liza So, Grace Lee and Pinky Amador.

(Launch sponsors included Pepsi, Crocs, Sunnywood, Tramontina, Wyeth Aqiva, Distileria Limtuaco, Chrysler Greenhills of CATS Motors and New Zealand Creamery.)

(Guevarra’s is located at 387 P. Guevarra Street corner Argonne Street, Addition Hills, San Juan City.
