Hail to the ‘King of Cognacs’

MANILA, Philippines - Louis XIII Grande Champagne Cognac, the exclusive cognac brand from the House of Rémy Martin, recently feted cognac enthusiasts in an exclusive dinner held at Red Lantern at the Solaire Resort and Casino.

Louis XIII is widely considered as the “King of Cognacs” because it only uses grapes from the Grande Champagne territory of Cognac, France. It is specially blended from 1,200 eaux-de-vie then aged in oak barrels that are several hundred years old. It is placed in special crystal decanters exclusively handcrafted by Baccarat with gold foil cork top and matching crystal stopper specific to each bottle. It is encased in a bespoke presentation box.

Rémy Martin, for its part, is the Heart of Cognac, representing almost 300 years of French wine growing and cognac-making know-how, with only 17 percent of all cognacs coming from the heart of the Cognac region. The House of Rémy Martin offers a cognac of unique aromatic intensity.

Prior to the dinner, a special Louis XIII Master Class was conducted for the bartenders and wait staff of Solaire’s numerous bar and restaurant outlets, equipping them with the proper brand knowledge to better serve their clientele.

The sumptuous dinner featured a food and cognac pairing that consisted of light chicken soup paired with a delightful Rémy VSOP cocktail of ginger, sugar and bitters. Pork spare ribs in plum sauce was then served with Rémy VSOP drizzled with warm water. This was followed by lobster lightly sautéed with vegetables and complemented by Rémy XO served neat. Dessert was chilled herb jelly Gui Ling Gao, which came with the evening’s most anticipated highlight, a sampling of Louis XIII Grande Champagne Cognac officiated by Rémy Cointreau International Louis XIII regional director Christophe Bourrie.

Rémy Cointreau International Philippines commercial manager Joey Pineda remarked, “A perfect flavor for the night is achieved with fine Chinese cuisine and cognac in general and Louis XIII in particular. And gauging from the enthusiasm generated just for this evening, we achieved a booking of 60 bottles of Louis XIII.”
