Sitsiritsit Alibangbang
A group exhibition titled Sitsiritsit Alibangbang will open on July 13, Saturday, 6 p.m. at The Metro Gallery in San Juan City.
This art show will feature recent works of nine young painters namely Jaime Raphael Atienza, Kevin Balboa, Den Chua, Adrian Evangelista, Dino Gabito, Lino Jamisola, Darrel Dan Lagasca, Charmaigne Mendoza and Tad Pagaduan.
The show is inspired by the Filipino folk song Sitsiritsit Alibangbang, a social commentary on poverty and child abuse. When I was a kid, I was familiar with this song but only knew the first stanza. I guess the second and third stanzas were not taught to children (rightfully so) because of what the song may have implied. The artists were tasked to render on canvas what the ditty meant to them.
(The show will run until July 27. The Metro Gallery is located at 455 P. Guevarra Street, San Juan City (beside Café Ysabel). For more information, e-mail [email protected] or call 0917-811-5399.)
