Get ready for an off-road action

MANILA, Philippines - Top local and international triathletes will once again witness off-road action this summer with the 2013 Vaseline Men XTERRA Off-road Triathlon Series.

The off-road triathlon series was recently launched at the Dusit Thani Manila and will kick off this year with the XTERRA Championship Weekend on March 2 to 3 in Liloan, Cebu.

The launch, hosted by Paolo Abrera and Patricia Bermudez-Hizon, also served as a gathering of the country’s top triathletes and the participants of last year’s off-road events like Dr. Martin Camara, Carlos de Guzman, Jinoe Gavan, Mathieu O’Halloran, Redg Plopinio and Hector Yuson.

Triathlete Fred Uytengsu, Alaska Milk Corp. president and CEO and Sunrise Events president and chairman, said: “The XTERRA Off-road Triathlon Series is a great opportunity and an ideal platform for Filipino athletes to train and improve their skills because they get to compete alongside the world’s best. We do hope that through events like this, Filipino triathletes can become not just the best in the country but be among the top pro triathletes of the world.”

The championship weekend in Cebu will commence with two triathlon events on March 2, the XTERRA Philippines Championship and the XTERRA Lite. A trail run is set on March 3, which will feature off-road courses in 21-, 10- and 5-kilometer distances for both the male and female categories.

Registration for the triathlon events and trail run on March 2 and 3 is ongoing at www.xterraphil.com and in all Runnr stores nationwide. Interested parties may also register for the trail run at selected Watson’s branches.
