He steals fire from the altar to give humans the gift of fire. From the gift of fire, humans learn to cook, keep warm, make tools, weapons and crafts. The gift of fire is celebrated each time the torch is passed in the Olympics. Prometheus becomes their champion and protector. Zeus is enraged by his actions and exacts his revenge on humans by sending seven evils and diseases through the first woman, Pandora. Prometheus learns that a servant leader sacrifices and suffers in a hero’s journey, but finds joy in his sacrifice. In the end, Prometheus is hero, protector, and champion of all humans.
