An eco-friendly gathering

Nokia ties up with Globe Telecom, Ayala Foundation and Philippine Tarsier Foundation Inc. (PTFI) to launch the mobile phone recycling program called “i-rEcover. I-rEcycle.”

Ayala Malls and Globe Telecom stores nationwide have placed recycling bins, which accept old mobile phones, mobile phone batteries and other mobile phone accessories. For every donation, Nokia will donate P100 to the PTFI to support programs for preserving the Philippine tarsier.

Nokia-South East Asia Pacific senior sustainability manager Francis Cheong says, “We are fortunate to have found partners with a similar commitment to environmental preservation. We are thus honored to be allied with Globe Telecom, Ayala Foundation and PTFI who are all equally dedicated to protecting the environment and encouraging more people to participate in this very important cause.”

Cheong led the ceremonial drop-off of old mobile phones during the launch at Greenbelt 3.

Guests were given an update on the current situation of the environment and how ecological degradation is causing a rapid decline in the population of Philippine tarsiers.  

The event also featured a bench made of recycled phones and a 5-foot-2-inch Mobile Man made up of approximately 270 pieces of old Nokia mobile phones, representing positive and creative ways to recycle cellular phones.

Stylish, sophisticated, sublime

Philippe Charriol was in Manila to launch his new Sports Charriol collection. Sports Charriol was conceptualized as a more casual selection of Charriol products.

The Sports Eyewear 2011 collection was displayed and highlighted throughout the evening, complemented by the company’s line of jewelry and fragrance. Black and white flags with the logo of Charriol in the center signified the inspiration behind the collection, which was Charriol’s love for the sport of Formula One car racing. 

Charriol talked about his vision for the line, specifically for the Sports Charriol eyewear. Grosfilley Lunettes for Near East, Middle East and Far East (Grosfilley is the worldwide licensee for Charriol eyewear) CEO Luc Margaritora de Barnier explained that Sports Charriol eyewear is made from carbon fiber and other materials that are associated with high-end, high-quality, lightweight products.

Sports Charriol eyewear is available in Ideal Vision stores. Meanwhile, the fragrance and jewelry lines are available in Rustan’s and Philippe Charriol boutiques, respectively.

Sorry, Anthony Haden Guest, for stealing your book title for this article. Mr. Guest wrote The Last Party, a book about a place he loved- — Studio 54. Nuvo, not exactly Studio 54 but I would have wanted it to be, is a place I love. Sadly, the “Envied Saturday birthday parties” have come to an end. Nuvo will be closing by end of the month.

The last party saw the birthdays of Jessica Tan-Gan, Veronica Mendez, David Goodier, Maan Ilustre and Lucio Pua. All celebrators got gifts from Regatta and Skyy Vodka.

Booze flowed freely and people still partied like there was no tomorrow since no one that night knew of the closing of the popular restaurant and bar. After nine years, the place, which has become like a home to me, may resurrect under a new name…we shall wait and see until that time comes.

Happy birthday to Jessica, Veronica, David, Maan and Lucio. You were lucky enough to have had the last group birthday party in Nuvo!
