All about fascination

THE PEPPER MILL - Pepper Teehankee -

Jewelry designer Joyce Makitalo launched her first solo exhibit at Firma in Greenbelt 3. The collection, entitled Non-Saint, was inspired by Joyce’s fascination with church paraphernalia and the opulence of the clergy.

Joyce, whose pieces have been featured in Vogue and WWD, said, “A book about the Kremlin treasures actually inspired me: beautiful, bejeweled objects from all over the world. Most of the pieces I was drawn to were religious in nature, and I thought that if I were to own those pieces, I would want them to be with a bit of humor. Also, I had in mind the greatness of the human spirit, and how these objects celebrate it.”

The jewelry collection included quirky and bejeweled object-of-art collection, including calices, bags and jewelry in silver and vermeil gold.

The show was presented in cooperation with Greenbelt at Ayala Malls and Stephanie Zubiri’s Modern Epicurean Kitchen.

Priceless F1 experience

F1 excitement was present when 13-time Formula One champion David Coulthard arrived in Manila direct from the Singapore Grand Prix to officially launch the TW Steel David Coulthard Special Edition watch.

Coulthard, who has been the face of the brand since May last year, said, “I’m thoroughly enjoying working with TW Steel as an ambassador so I guess it was only natural that the next step was to produce a watch together. I think the end result is certainly one that maintains TW Steel’s bold appeal while it perfectly reflects my own appreciation for subtle yet distinctive styling.”

MasterCard cardholders who bought the Special Edition watch received Official Licensed TW Steel caps that were personally autographed by Coulthard.

Welcoming Coulthard and his fiancée Karen Minier were Lucerne managing directors Emerson and Ivan Yao, MasterCard executives led by country manager Poch Villa-Real, Judith Marie Dayrit, Ailea Zialcita, Chris Paraiso and Rochelle Mayuga and Singapore Airlines Philippines GM Andrew Budiman.

Also at the event, fresh from her F1 experience, was cardholder Janice Pacia, who won the grand prize in the MasterCard raffle promotion for a VIP pass to the Singapore Grand Prix. Janice flew in style as she enjoyed roundtrip airfare via Singapore Airlines and was billeted at InterContinental Singapore. At the Grand Prix, she enjoyed exclusive VIP access to the Lotus Renault Team Paddock and was able to meet F1 driver Vitaly Petrov, giving her a truly priceless F1 experience.

Coulthard’s arrival also marked the grand opening of Le Temps, the newest luxury watch store by Lucerne that houses a variety of brands, at the Resorts World Manila. Coulthard, flanked by Ivan Yao and Emerson Yao, Traveller’s International Hotel Group, Inc.’s president Kingson Sian, Minier and Stephen Reilly, EVP Traveller’s International Hotel Group, Inc., led the ribbon-cutting.

Lucky guest Lauro Baja won the oversized TW Steel watch when it was raffled off.

(TW Steel watch is available at the TW Steel boutique in Podium, Lucerne Shangri-La and Cebu, Chronos, Swiss Gear and Wrist Pod boutiques nationwide.)
