Inspiring innovation

THE PEPPER MILL - Pepper Teehankee -

The advent of tablets is all the more felt now that Asus has launched its two new top-of-the-line products  the EEE Pad Transformer and K3 series notebook  at the Palladium Club in New World Hotel in Makati City.

Asus addressed various consumer needs with its range of tablet PCs, which were showcased in CES and CeBIT IT trade shows this year.

The EEE Pad Transformer is touted as the best tablet choice for users looking for both media consumption and mobile productivity. Featuring an expandable keyboard docking station and combined battery life of up to 16 hours, this laptop runs the new Android operating system, Honeycomb. Combining Honeycomb with Asus’ Waveshare user interface and the most powerful hardware features available makes the Transformer an exciting portable device both for office work and social communication.

The new K Series notebooks from Asus deliver the power of second-generation mobile Intel Core processors and discrete NVIDIA GeForce GT 500 series graphics. These specifications result in an accelerated computing experience. The notebook also features highly durable aluminum texture covers for a unique look. The inclusion of exclusive IceCool technology provides users with an extra comfortable typing experience, as palm rests remain cool at all times. These are available in red, green, blue, pink and gold.

During the launch, Asus introduced its new ambassadors namely Vince Golangco, Arbie Won, Valerie Chua and Chrissey Si.

Celebrating X-Men experiences

I am a self-confessed X-Men fanatic. Long before it was made into a movie, I have been reading X-Men comics.

Fans around the world surely had a field day when the movie X-Men: First Class was recently released.

Aside from the movie, what delighted the fans was when AOC, the world’s leading manufacturer of professional displays, and Twentieth Century Fox International, a global leader in the entertainment industry, collaborated on a joint promotion on the movie X-Men: First Class and launched AOC “X-Men First Class Special Edition” monitors.

To meet the desires of X-Men fans, AOC designed a series of “X-Men First Class Special Edition” Light Emitting Diode (LED) computer monitors, including the world’s thinnest IPS-panel display and the first computer monitor that can be transformed from a conventional stand to a photo frame style.

The 53-Series is the world’s slimmest IPS-panel computer monitors — less than 1-cm thin. The entire panel body of this ultra slim LED computer monitor is just 9.2-mm thin. Superior IPS display technology provides a very wide viewing angle and excellent color performance. LED backlighting yields the world’s highest dynamic contrast ratio of 50 million to 1, while saving energy and containing no toxic mercury. The unique, streamlined smart base can swivel to become a wall mount. The monitor has a brushed metallic surface and crystalline frame.

The 51-Series is an ultra-slim panel with a removable base that transforms into a giant photo frame style. The thickness of these ultra slim LED monitors is just 1.06-cm thin across most of the body. The base can be removed, allowing the monitor to rest on its bottom edge like a giant photo frame. LED backlighting uses less than 50 percent of the power of traditional Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) displays.

The AOC “X-Men First Class Special Edition” monitors launch were attended by GM for sales-Asia Pacific Ray Zhou, CEO of EA Global Supply Chain Solutions Jason Cheng, COO of EA Global Supply Chain Solutions Richard Ching and sales and marketing manager of AOC Monitors Ula Ladrillo.

(AOC monitors are distributed in the Philippines by EA Global Supply Chain Solutions Inc.)
