A dazzling ruby celebration for Zonta

Zontians from different Metro Manila chapters, foreign dignitaries and special guests recently gathered for the ruby anniversary of the Zonta Club of Makati & Environs (ZCME). Held at the luxurious ballroom of Dusit Thani Manila, the affair was led by hardworking president Carol Llanillo. Officers and members of the organization were all dressed to the nines as they took part in the milestone event, marking Zonta’s 40th year of unwavering commitment to empower women and promote social change. Seventeen dynamic past presidents were honored for their remarkable contributions and services to the club, namely: Ambassador Isabel Caro Wilson, Erlinda Villanueva, Dr. Fe Canlas-Dizon (received by her daughter and Makati Zontian Dr. Lourraine Dizon Co), Olivia Ferry, Erlinda Panlilio, Olivia Villafuerte, Editha Arambulo, Bellaflor Angara Castillo, Dr. Vermen Verallo-Rowell, Carina Castañeda-Lebron, Georgitta “Beng” Puyat, Armita Rufino, Monica Aveo, Carmencita Esteban, Maritess Pineda, Angelina “Chona” Lopez and Olga Severino Martel.

Ruby Anniversary presidential awards were likewise conferred to nine outstanding members in recognition of their dedication to the club’s goals. Among the awardees were Victoria Wieneke, Dr. Iva Anastacio, Armita Rufino, Ambassador Leonida Vera, Erlinda Panlilio, Angelina Lopez, Georgitta “Beng” Puyat, Erlinda Villanueva and Oliva Ferry. The glitzy affair dazzled even more as Zontians sashayed the runway in world-class Filipiniana creations by famed fashion designer Patis Tesoro.

Home away from home

Both the friendly hotel staff and VIP guests of Boracay’s unparalleled home away from home, the Regency Lagoon Resort, were star-struck during the merry month of May. First, there was movie actor/hunk Piolo Pascual having dinner with the 11 lucky winners of HBC’s “An Exclusive Moment with Piolo.” Then it was TV’s sunshine girl Donita Rose Villarama’s turn to enjoy a brief respite with her family in the paradise island. But as what Boracay Regency Beach Resort and Spa chairman Henry Chusuey always asks his staff: Give nothing but the best for guests — celebrity or not.

Living it up in Manila!

Charming New Yorkers Jesusa De Leon Calanog and husband Dr. Tony Calanog recently had a memorable time when they touched base with their dear friends and colleagues during their recent trip to Manila. The jovial couple caught up with the latest in the social scene as they attended a couple of events such as the art exhibit of New Yorker Lolita Valderama Savage at the Ayala Museum and the party honoring Bobby Novenario’s investiture as knight of Malta. The couple also attended a fun gathering hosted by Dr. Vermen Verallo-Rowelle at his North Forbes Park residence to honor Dr. Tony Calanog.
