Some things are better written

Trish Panlilio is a former model and a mother of three boys Quintin, Matteo and Luca. She has had a fascination with letter writing and stationery ever since she was young and a personal touch was always something that mattered to her. Personalizing everything, even her children’s parties, was a hobby that she loved very much.

This hobby turned into a business when she established paPillo Fine Stationers, which seeks to give its customers different means of expressing whatever they want to express on paper. PaPillo offers everything, from invitations and note cards to balloon arrangements and personalized ribbons. Trish says, “It is a woven process that combines color, words and thought and for our client, individuality and a product that is rendered with utmost quality.”

Trish had her media launch followed by a whole day affair for her grand launch at Essensa in The Fort. Guests were able to see almost the whole range of her wide selection of stationery, pens and gift sets. It was also a perfect opportunity for guests to buy some of these products for the holiday season. The event lasted from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. with drinks and food served throughout the day. The event was certainly a success.

War and roses

The extravagance of England during the renaissance was brought to life in the latest collection of Filipino designer Furne One (pronounced oh-nay) called “War and Roses.”

One’s new collection was showcased in his very first Philippine gala, “First of One — A Fashion Collection by Furne One” at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel. Dubai-based One took inspiration from Queen Elizabeth I and the Golden Age of England. Each piece from the collection depicted a queenly look defined by ornate finery that were richly decorated.

The creations had intricate details captured on the beadwork, embroidery and symbols of monarchy that were embellished with Swarovski crystals. One says, “When I was conceptualizing ‘War and Roses,’ what I had in mind was giving the Filipino audience something akin to a cinematic experience. I wanted them to feel totally enthralled as if they’re watching an epic period movie. I think I was able to capture that through my latest designs, which truly gave a generous dose of high drama and rich, vivid visuals.”

One’s road to fashion success started when he joined and won the Mega Young Designer of the Philippines Award in 1994, paving the way for apprenticeship at House of Christian Lacroix in Paris and Josie Natori’s boutique in New York. He then joined international competitions in Japan, where he won Japan’s Women’s Wear Award, the Asian Fashion Grand Prix Contest, and Manila’s Fashion Designer Awards.

The show was an annual fashion fundraising event of the Philippine National Red Cross presented by Tessa Prieto-Valdes and Kaye Tinga for the benefit of the Philippine National Red Cross-Rizal Chapter and the Assumption High School Batch 1981 Foundation.

“First of One — A Fashion Collection by Furne One” was directed by Ariel Lozada, fashion styling by Noel Manapat, and hair and makeup by Patrick Rosas. The show was presented by Etihad Airways and Mega magazine in cooperation with HSBC, Makati Shangri-La, Megaworld, Smart, SM and Volvo.
