Dennis goes solo!

THE PEPPER MILL - Pepper Teehankee -

Dennis Lustico’s first solo show called Lustico: A Fashion Presentation was held at the Rizal Ballroom of the Makati Shangri-La. Guests were welcomed by organizers and Lustico’s loyal clients, Tessa Prieto-Valdes and Taguig first lady Kaye Tinga, who spearheaded the show to raise more funds for the relief operations of the Philippine National Red Cross Rizal Chapter for the typhoon victims. The show was also done for the benefit of the Assumption High School Class 1981 Foundation and Tanging Yaman Foundation.

Lustico’s new collection The Legionnaire was a 40-piece collection inspired by early Anglo-Gallic-Roman gallantry particularly the Legion d’Honneur Order established by Napoleon Bonaparte. Lustico’s new pieces showed a palette of strong hues such as navy and electric blue, gun metal, bottle green, ivory, silver gray, polished gold and black, with accents of softer tones like rose, cherry and peach.

As guests enjoyed an all-Filipino feast, they joined Tessa, Kaye and Dennis in raising funds for charity and typhoon victims in a silent auction, proceeds of which will be donated to the Philippine National Red Cross Rizal Chapter. Items included in the bidding were vacation packages in Boracay, Bohol, Bicol, Palawan, Cebu and in Europe; HSBC Red Package composed of a Red Mastercard, Rustan’s Beauty Box and a Lustico gown; Jul Dizon brooch; Sony Ericsson Satio Phone; high-end items from Rustan’s and B&B Italia; PLDT SME Package; an Ivan Acuna painting; and a Daniel Dela Cruz metal sculpture.

The event was directed by Ariel Lozada. Fashion styling was done by Noel Manapat and hair and makeup by Patrick Rosas. The show was presented by HSBC, Rustan’s the Beauty Source and Audi, in cooperation with Santa Maria Novella, Murad and Manuel Canovas Parfums. It was also co-sponsored by DMCI Homes, Megaworld, PLDT, Ethan Allen, Makati Shangri-La Hotel, Sony Ericsson, El Nido, Janylin Shoes, Jul Dizon Jewellery, Philippine Daily Inquirer, The Philippine Star, Philippine Tatler, S&R and Thai Airways. The tiger lives on!

Onitsuka Tiger, whose products have been worn by Uma Thurman in Kill Bill and Shia LeBeouf in Disturbia, celebrates its anniversary in true Japanese style.

For the Japanese, turning 60 is an honor, having completed the “cycle of life,” a combination of 12 animals and five earth elements of the Japanese Zodiac calendar. Taking its cue from the revered age of 60, the new collection incorporates the 12 zodiac sign graphics into its new footwear and apparel line. The zodiac-themed collection called Cycle of Life is the beautiful result of the brand’s original sports heritage and its influence as a style icon amongst “sports-fashion” enthusiasts, artists and athletes worldwide. The first six animals on the calendar (Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon and Snake) constitute the Spring-Summer 2009 collection while the second set of animals (Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Boar) are part of the Autumn-Winter 2009 collection.

Says Anil Buxani, managing director of Sonia Trading, the brand’s sole local distributor since the 1970s: “As our way of celebrating Onitsuka Tiger’s anniversary, we proudly present the Autumn-Winter collection to the Filipinos.”

Also launched were the Zodiac T-shirts — short-sleeved crew neck shirts designed with either a sheep, horse or monkey by Takeshi Fukui, and top-selling Onitsuka Tiger footwear lines redesigned for the collection namely the Mexico 66 Lauta (horse), Coolidge (sheep) and Lawnship (monkey). Founded in 1949 by Kihachiro Onitsuka in order to promote a healthy and sound lifestyle among the youth through the spirit of sports, the footwear giant first arrived in the Philippines in 1975.

According to Buxani, Onitsuka Tiger will have three more stores in Metro Manila and in three regional areas in the country. It has one in Greenbelt 5 and the second Onitsuka Tiger shop will open this month at the second floor of Shangri-La Plaza.
