Nuvo turns seven

If a restaurant/bar in fickle Manila lasts for seven years, then it must be good! 

Nuvo, which has served consistently good food to its loyal after-hours clientele, recently celebrated its seventh birthday with a huge party.

The Mezzanine, ground level and the al fresco area were packed with party goers till the wee hours of the morning.

Nuvo has revamped its after-hours parties with models’ night on Mondays, lawyers’ night on Tuesday, a perfume and/or makeup night on Wednesdays, jazz Thursdays, Facebook Fridays and Saturdays are usually anything goes as the place is welcoming and I always feel at home there.

Nuvo’s main man Louie Ysmael was there to welcome people for the big bash.

We look forward to several more years of this restaurant/bar.

Happy birthday, Cacay!

PR lady Cacay Moras celebrated her birthday at Embassy Fly with those nearest and dearest to her, including some of Cacay’s friends from Cebu, who flew to Manila to greet the birthday girl. DJ Jermaine Brown and guest DJ from Cebu Hans Congmon played their own brand of music. Between the two of them, the guests were kept on their feet and on the dance floor.

Of course guests also got their dose of fashion with “Fabric” featuring designs by Niño Angeles, Nicee Atienza and Kaye Morales. The models were all expertly dolled up by master hair stylist Ruel Papa and his team with makeup provided by Make Up For Ever. 42 Below Vodka and Frexeinet Cava were flowing the entire night.

‘The rise of the harvest moon’

Makati Shangri-La celebrated the rise of the mid-autumn harvest moon with a launch of its most delectable variety of mooncakes. The evening brought together a pageantry of Chinese musicians, acrobatic performers, tea masters and culinary experts.

Five mooncake flavors, elegantly encased in an assortment of box sizes, will be sold at the hotel lobby booth until Oct. 3. In keeping with the ancient tradition of the mooncake, these luxuriously red boxes will find their way as gifts of good wishes and symbolic presents of longevity and harmony among family and friends. This year’s mooncake selection are filled with the fillings such as red lotus cream, white lotus, red bean, milk cream and yam, the mooncake also holds in its center salted egg yolks to represent the full moon.

Shang Palace chef Wu Kin Man spoke to guests about his inspirations for the mooncake flavors this year as they sampled the pastries and drank tea served to them in a unique fashion by the tea master. An exhilarating show by the talented cast of “Wanders” awed the audience with hoop jumping gymnasts, contortionists and a hand-balancing couple complemented the live melodic music from traditional Chinese instruments.

For those looking to make their purchase a charitable one, Makati Shangri-La also offers the special edition silver mooncake boxes to benefit the Shangri-La’s corporate charity partner, CARE FOR CHILDREN.

The Beijing-based foundation introduces foster care and other strategic initiatives to relieve hardship, distress and sickness and to enrich the lives of orphans and other needy children.
