Double Take at the Lopez Memorial Museum

Known for its fascinating collections and timeless pieces, the Lopez Memorial Museum enthralls us once again with its latest exhibit, Double Take. This captivating display features works from the museum’s permanent collection, LVN archival photographs and a video installation by young director Raya Martin whose creations have been recognized by the Cannes Film Festival. Double Take runs until Sept. 25.

Enriching our arts and cultural heritage

Much is needed to be done to preserve, protect and develop our cultural heritage. In light of this, the Society for Cultural Enrichment, Inc. (SCEI) initiated a timely and appropriate noble task when it recently held a casual get-together dinner party to discuss how to address this issue. Astute businessman and SCEI chairman and president Gerry Contreras led the affair, which was held at his posh residence in South Forbes Park. A special bond among the members was noticeable since all worked together in a spirit of friendship and cooperation. They also shared a commitment in improving Philippine culture and the arts.

Treasures in the island paradise

The latest restaurant concept to hit the scene is Flapjacks. Bright yellows and sunny oranges, highlighted by a rich purple backdrop, welcome diners upon entering the restaurant. Pristine tables dot the dining area as well as large, comfy wooden chairs and couches. The waiters and waitresses are friendly and accommodating in their fun khaki uniform. The restaurant promises good food all day; famous breakfasts, hearty lunches, and great dinners. See you there! Flapjacks is located at Greenbelt 2 and soon at Robinsons Place Malate!

Yummy crocodile steak for dinner, anyone?

Even your columnist was surprised to learn that crocodile meat is a healthy food source. Benedict Solco and Tyrone Yu of Coral Farms set up a crocodile cooking demo at the recent Philippine International Food Exhibition (IFEX) held at SMX under the guidance of Cook magazine editor-in-chief Nancy Reyes-Lumen. Coral Farms is accredited to farm Philippine crocodiles sourced from the Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center. After seeing the potential in the crocodile food industry, Coral Farms hired foreign consultants to help build an internationally-accepted slaughtering facility which passed the National Meat Inspection Service certification. The crocodile meat is low in cholesterol. Its fish-like white meat is super clean. Go grab a pack now and have something different for a change. Bon appétit!
