Long live the King!

THE PEPPER MILL - Pepper Teehankee -

The Royal Thai Embassy celebrated the 81st birth anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand at the residence of Thai Ambassador Kulkumut Singhara Na Ayudhaya. The birth anniversary, which is also the Thai National Day, is also Father’s Day in Thailand, as the Thai people behold His Majesty as the people’s King and definitive model for a father.

Extending his message to the Filipinos, the Thai Ambassador recognized the long-standing relationship between Thailand and the Philippines for mutual diplomatic rapport as well as sharing the longest ties in Southeast Asia. He also expressed the King’s royal projects that aim to modernize economic progress through sustainable developments that promote mature progress for the country in the long run.

Working together in support for the occasion are the Thai private sectors in the Philippines, notably Thai Airways International that flooded its booth with authentic Thai dishes and desserts and flew in imported Thai orchid corsages reminiscent of the insignia that the airline is known for. There were also Thai noodles and food provided by local Thai restaurants and the Dusit Thani Hotel in Manila. The event was also supported by other Thai companies including Siam Cement Group, PTT Public Company, Bangkok Bank, Charoen Pokphand Foods and Italian-Thai Construction.

Guests were entertained by Mapua Concert Singers who sang the Thai and the Philippine National anthems, while the band of the Philippine Air Force rendered some of the King’s many compositions. Children from Sucat Daycare Center, an organization funded by the Thai Embassy, performed Thai cultural dances and Filipino folk dances.

Thai golf invitational

Thai Airways International’s friends and partners in the industry teed off in the Annual Invitational Golf tournament at Canlubang Golf & Country Club in Laguna. The general sales agent team of Thai Airways spearheaded the event sponsored by PACSports, PAIR Cargo, Club Car and Nike.

The appearance of over 170 players from the successful activity translated as an endearing support and good faith to the airline especially so that the tournament was held during the height of the political setback in Bangkok. From bag drop to tee houses, from locker rooms to lounge and all the way to the fields, the event went absolutely smooth as silk and in proper order. Complete with the signature Thai orchid floral arrangements on each table, guests were treated to an exquisite lunch buffet prepared by chef Billy King of French Corner.

Sportscaster Anthony Suntay acted as host for the award luncheon which capped off with a raffle draw of prizes such as a set of Nike Ignite Irons, Nike Sport Cart Golf Bags, and a two-night stay for two with breakfast at KATA Beach Resort and Spa in Phuket, Thailand.
