Precision watchmaking

THE PEPPER MILL - Pepper Teehankee -

Omega opened its second boutique in the Philippines at Greenbelt 5 with Omega president Stephen Urquhart flying in from Switzerland for the inauguration.   Helping him in welcoming guests to the new boutique were Omega regional sales manager Oliver Hugentobler, Omega Philippines GM Edith Dychiao and Lucerne managing directors Ivan and Emerson Yao.

Urquhart expressed high expectations for the new boutique, citing Omega’s strong presence in the Philippines for 60 years now. “We are happy that we will be able to make our full product range available to them in a relaxed and luxurious environment,” he said.

A Seamaster Planet Ocean watch in special box signed by brand ambassador George Clooney was up for grabs at the new boutique. Lucy Torres Gomez placed the watch in a transparent vault, locked it and then dropped the key in a huge transparent bowl with many other keys in it. Customers of Omega were allowed to pick out one key from the bowl and if the key opened the vault, the watch was his.

Grooving to the rhythm of Sandalias

People were dancing to the rhythm of Brazilian beats at the Sandalias Festival which showcased Brazilian footwear brands Ipanema, Grendha and Rider.

Guests trooped to the Glorietta Activity Center to bask in the celebration mounted by ELRO Commercial and Industrial Corp., the exclusive distributor of Grendene SA products, the world’s largest PVC footwear manufacturer and principal of the three brands featured at the festival.

ELRO managing director for consumer group Patxi Elizalde said, “This activity is our way of playing up the personalities and lifestyles of Ipanema, Grendha and Rider. Our products are not just fashion pieces; they are everyday essentials that cater to your feet with oomph and style.”

The crowd enjoyed a program featuring the thumping live percussion of Buganda with Escola De Samba De Manila and a colorful parade and dance fashion show rendered by Steps Dance Project. Radio jocks and program hosts Tom Alvarez and Nikki B also conducted fun games, where contestant got free footwear.

The Sandalias Festival announced the winners of the “Where Have Your Sandals Gone?” photo contest. The festival was made possible with the support of Fairways and Bluewater Newcoast Boracay, Freeway and Planet Sports.

Dinosaur den

It was a roaring night when the Dinos Alive Tour 2008 in Manila held its grand opening at the Block 5, SM Mall of Asia.   The lighting of the signage atop the waterfall facade marked its opening. Pasay City Mayor Wenceslao “Peewee” Trinidad and Department of Tourism Undersecretary Cynthia Carrion performed the ceremonial rites.

Over a thousand guests took a step back in time at Dinos Alive Tour. They were guided through a dinosaur theme park journey replete with interactive robotic dinosaurs that looked real with the help of state-of-the-art lighting and sound effects.

The fun did not end after the tour since other surprises were prepared by Max Entertainment performers. Fun games and food were provided by the Dinos Alive sponsors which included Purefoods, Caltex, Alaska, KFC, GMA Marketing and Promotions Inc. (QTV), Banco De Oro, Kodak (Techtrends), SM Mall of Asia, Dunkin Donuts, Pioneer Insurance, The Dusit Thani Manila and TicketWorld.
