Visions of red
The Camera Club of the Philippines (CCP) held Visions for Red, a photo exhibit that celebrated the 80th anniversary of the CCP to benefit the Makati branch of the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC). Held at Robinsons Land’s Trion Towers showroom, the affair, sponsored by Globe Platinum, Sony Ericsson and Volvo, featured over 40 photos of women taken by CCP members who generously donated to the PNRC their professional fees, which were paid for by these charitable ladies who allowed themselves to be photographed.
These women included Tessa Prieto-Valdes, Jeena Lopez, Tweetie de Leon-Gonzalez, Marissa Concepcion, Kai Lim, Marissa Cojuangco, Abby Jimenez, Mons Tantoco, Trina Alindogan, Candy Dizon and Milette Belmonte.
Also featured were Cathy Qu, Lianne Tiu, Imelda Marcos, Venisse Laurel-Hermano, Ruthy Vera, Kaye Tinga, Cedie Vargas, Grace Ang, Annette Tirol, Lyn Manalansang, Sandy Prieto-Romualdez, Dawn Zulueta-Lagdameo, Suzanne Cobonpue, Lisa Araneta-Marcos, Maricris Albert, Doyee Tumpalan, Susan Florete, Cindy Yang, Audrey Puckett-Chiu, Tisha Bautista, Cristina Romualdez, Crickette Tantoco, Nanette Medved, Mary de Leon, Peewee Figueroa, Marilen Tuason, Florence Ko, Annette Abrogar, Zsa Zsa Padilla and Sharon Cuneta. All photographs were sponsored and printed by Canon.
A check amounting to P500,000 was turned over to PNRC Makati branch director Marivic Rufino. An initial P500,000 was already presented prior to the event, bringing the total donation to P1 million. Marivic said: “I thank the organizers, sponsors and members of the CCP who organized this event for the Red Cross Rizal Chapter, Makati branch. Raising money in the best of times has never been an easy task. It is even more challenging during difficult times like these. It is people like the organizers, sponsors and participants of this exhibit who make the continued existence of the Red Cross a viable proposition.”
CCP president Raoul Littaua praised the ladies who posed for the exhibit saying: “With a beautiful model, 50 percent of the photographer’s job is done. However, I speak for my colleagues in the club when I say that, in the case of the shoots for Visions for Red, 90 percent of our job was done. You ladies are all beautiful people and it was a real pleasure photographing each one of you.” Raoul added that it is fitting that the club is partnering with the PNRC since singer and club member Francis Magalona was diagnosed with leukemia. “He will need all the blood donations and prayers that he can get,” said Raoul.
The Camera Club of the Philippines, the oldest in the country, has continued uninterrupted (except for a brief hiatus during World War II) since 1928. Descendants of the original eight founders are club members today.
The Red Cross Makati City is a new branch of the PNRC Rizal Chapter, having been formally launched a year ago in August 2007. It is part of a network of 12 branches and one subchapter that services 12 million people in the old province of Rizal and is tasked to deliver all of the Red Cross’s six major services: disaster management, safety services, blood banking, community health and nursing, social services and Red Cross Youth.
The fund-raiser was also sponsored by HSBC, Mercedes Benz, Moet & Chandon, Belvedere Vodka and El Nido Resorts.
In retrospect
Gaseras (traditional Filipino lamps) literally lit up the Rizal Ballroom of Makati Shangri-La as Metrobank presented the Fernando Amorsolo Gala Benefit, which launched the much-awaited seven-museum Amorsolo Retrospective exhibit.
Guests donned Filipiniana outfits to keep with the gala’s theme. Before the program started, everyone was refreshed by three cocktails created by Del Monte for the event.
CRIBS Foundation, Inc. chairperson Cristina Estrada and banker Jaime Laya gave the opening remarks, followed by the Fernando C. Amorsolo Art Foundation, Inc. chairman Sylvia Amorsolo Lazo, Del Monte Philippines, Inc. president Joselito Campos and Alfred Ty of the Metrobank Group of Companies.
Samsung phones were given to lucky guests through a raffle conducted by Evelyn Lim-Forbes. Metrobank Card Corp. president Tony Maughan gave out Femme of the Night awards to Victoria Vasquez and Joanna Lhuillier, and Platinum Man of the Night to Henry Villarica. A Toyota Altis was also raffled off.
The evening was a celebration of the Filipino art and culture and the enduring passion that first National Artist Amorsolo had for his country. The Manila Symphony Orchestra String Quartet serenaded guests with classic Filipino tunes. Later in the evening, violinist Coke Bolipata performed, followed by songs from artists Ricky Davao, The Company, Cris Villonco, Eula Valdez, Isay Alvarez, Robert Seña, Grace Nono, Mon David, Joey Ayala, Cynthia Alexander, the Angono Regional Pilot School for the Arts and Kuh Ledesma. Proceeds of the gala would be given to CRIBS Foundation, Inc.
The Fernando Amorsolo Gala Benefit signals the start of Amorsolo Retrospective, a four-month, multi-venue exhibition of the works of the artist. It runs until December in the following museums: Ayala Museum, GSIS Museum of Art, Lopez Memorial Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art, National Art Gallery of the National Museum of the Philippines, UP Jorge B. Vargas Museum and Filipiniana Research Center and Yuchengco Museum.
Metrobank has long been nurturing Philippine art, supporting Filipino artists and renewing the public’s interest in and appreciation of the arts. Metrobank is proud to be one of the presenters of this prestigious celebration.
