Domini Primero of Driven Manila and Toti Dalmacion of Groove Nation joined forces in bringing back “Consortium” to the dance music scene after being in hiatus for six years at Warehouse 135. Consortium was a roving club in the mid ‘90s that was way ahead of its time.

To prove the point that underground music was danceable, DJ Nathan Coles of the prestigious super underground club Fabric London flew in and dropped a lot of fresh and unadulterated house music with a dash of minimal tech. Groove Nation DJs Benjie Lopez, Cyril Yarisantos and Toti Dalmacion did a great job of complementing the sound of the main DJ.

Among those enjoying the party at the Warehouse were Hilary Bautista, Lisa Buenaflor, Nikki Romero, Tyrone Ong, Roldan Capito, Chino Yulo, Borgy Manotoc, Ornusa Cadness, Michelle Madrigal, Vanna Garcia and Aimee Marcos.

Advocacy for men

Little is known about Male Pattern Hair Loss (MPHL), a condition that is suffered by more than five million Filipino men. Merck Sharp & Dohme (MSD) Philippines changed all that and recently launched an advocacy called ProHair that aims to educate men about MPHL.

The launch at the Mandarin Oriental Manila had dermatopathologist and hair expert Dr. Jun Bormate present to enlighten those present about MPHL. Supporting the advocacy and acting as panelists were party promoter Teddy Dario, celebrated tour guide Carlos Celdran, Star columnist RJ Ledesma and race car driver Mike Potenciano.

MSD, the proponents of the advocacy, also introduced the website www.prohair.com.ph and changed the paradigm in the proper diagnosis and treatment of MPHL through cyberspace via the ProHair portal. The website gives more information about MPHL, professional diagnoses and correct treatments to help men battle hair loss.

Rivermaya is only human

Rivermaya rocked the house at Capone’s in Makati as the band was unveiled as the newest Human endorsers. Human, the alternative clothing and lifestyle brand synonymous to music, had chosen Rivermaya to be the endorser for its newest clothing campaign “Hot Streaks,” a funky and edgy line. Opening the show was guest band Taken by Cars, who sang a few of their original tunes. Performing shortly after was Rivermaya, whose members were clad in colored denims from the Hot Streaks line.

Members of the press, alongside Human brand manager Suyen Lim, donning Hot Streaks colored denims in lime green, were among those in attendance.  Suyen said, “Human has always been at the forefront of supporting talented artists and local talents. We’re pleased that Rivermaya embodies the brand philosophy of expressing one’s own individuality, being confident in one’s skin and living life to the full!”

Looking forward to Fabric

Manila’s fashion party scene got some of its sizzle back as Fabric was relaunched at Embassy Fly. Last year, various designers from all over the country transformed every Thursday night into a must go-to event at Piedra. Bands performed to add to the evening’s entertainment and kept the party going with potent sounds that made the night. This time, it’s bigger and better as Cacay Moras and Liza Tan, together with Absolut Vodka, take the weekly party to a massive once-a-month affair.

 For the relaunch, Eric de los Santos’s collection was elegant evening wear in grey, black and white. Isabel Lopez showed chic casual ensembles. Camille Villanueva showcased charming vintage inspired creations. The crowd enjoyed Duerr’s edgy street fashion. Swimwear by Twinkle Ferraren was trendy yet wearable. Salsa Trends by Arleen Sipat included contemporary designs, from bathing suits to evening gowns in summer colors. B’yumi by Byumi Yoanna presented couture short cocktail dresses in light hues made of chiffon.

Guests enjoyed their Absolut cocktails and witnessed a fun and distinctive show. Makeup was provided by MAC and hair by Basement Salon. The models strutted their stuff in exquisite shoes proudly Philippine made all from Schu.

 Fashion watchers and regular party habitués now can look forward to Fabric every third Thursday of the month at Embassy Fly.
