Seeing red

THE PEPPER MILL - Pepper Teehankee -

Boracay was red-hot as the world’s no.1 cigarette brand presented Marlboro Red Night. Anticipation started building up when smoking areas located at the beachfront were opened with comfortable low red lounges and soothing music played in the background.

Marlboro brand ambassadors, clad in their red-hot bikinis, welcomed sun-kissed guests and invited them to the Red Night at Beach Comber when the sun went down. Guests at the red-themed affair relaxed by the beach with specialty cocktails served all night. White cocktail tables were lit-up with the cigarette brand’s signature red that gave way to a huge dance floor, which started to fill when DJ Tony Pavia began his set followed by DJ Miro of Croatia. Two-time winner of the Australian state DMC championships DJ Kristian Hernandez’s beats perked up the early morning hours as dancing continued under the clear blue skies of dawn.

Those at the Marlboro Red Night can remember how much fun it was and how possibly this may become a new Boracay tradition.

Give in to a new inspiration

It has always been at the forefront of kitchen design. SieMatic, a premium kitchen cabinet brand from Germany, has proven once again by unveiling its latest kitchen design concept called the BeauxArts Collection.

The BeauxArts Collection was first presented in Autumn of 2006 and is now being introduced for the first time in the Philippines. The collection, which was created in collaboration with SieMatic’s Chicago design partner Mick De Giulio, combines different stylistic directions, materials and colors that build a bridge between seemingly contradictory styles and international design preferences — a concept that was inspired by American architects at the start of the 20th century.

Volker Betsch, SieMatic’s managing director for the Far East, attended the launch along with architect Flordeliz Isaac of Isla+Isaac Architects, who gave a brief talk on SieMatic and BeauxArts design concept.

SieMatic is distributed in the Philippines by Focus Global Inc.

‘Defected’ brings the house down

After nine years of dishing out tunes, Simon Dunmore’s “Defected in the House” is now one of the most respected house acts in the global dance community. Among Defected’s roster of talented resident DJs is the young and promising Andy Daniell. Andy started DJing at the age of 14. At 16, he made his first record Doin’ It, a track which eventually found its way to Lee Burridge’s 24:7 Global Underground compilation album. He performed at London’s mighty Ministry of Sound at 18 and joined the Defected team at 20, making him the label’s youngest ever resident DJ.

At Embassy Superclub, Bigfish gave clubbers a chance to witness Andy perform after DJ Anton Ramos delivered an enjoyable warm up set. Andy’s brand of house mixed with touches of electro, soul, funk, Latin and disco kept the night exhilarating. After Andy’s performance, it was justified why Andy was hailed by Mixmag as one of the best Ibiza breakthrough DJs and by M8 Magazine as one of its “Tomorrow People.”

“Defected in the House” in Manila was a certified hit, thanks to Astring-O-sol, Bigfish TV, Bigfish Radio, Good Times 101 Condoms, Feel, Folded & Hung, Activ8 Records, Manila Bulletin, The Philippine Star, Business World, Malaya, Life & Entertainment by Manila Standard Today, MYX, Magic 89.9, Max FM 103.5, 99.5 Campus FM, NU Rock 107,  Mabuhay Magazine, FHM Magazine, Metro Magazine, Borabuzzer, Burn, MNL, Fudge, Sugar Sugar, Bounce, Rouge, Pinoyexchange.com, Clickthecity.com, Inquirer.net, Yehey.com,  Nulatex, O Music and Video and Gold’s Gym.

A celebration of colors

Excitement, fanfare and colors ruled at the Canon Image Nation Summer ’08 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Ortigas.

It was a showcase of the launching products like Canon Powershot A470 in neon colors, Canon Digital Ixus 80 IS in soft metallics and easy-to-carry Selphy ES20. A major photo exhibit and luncheon was graced by various media practitioners from major TV networks and newspapers. Of course, Canon has given away products ranging from digital cameras to video camcorders to lucky guests.
