Special Delivery: Pastorfide pays it forward, donates P1 million to UP-PGH
Dr. Greg B. Pastorfide, one of the country’s leading obstetrics and gynecology experts, “pays it forward,” so to speak.
Though Dr. Pastorfide has practically spent most of his professional life training and teaching young doctors as part of his government service, he decided to give out more on his retirement day.
During his retirement celebration at the Ballroom of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in
Dr. Greg is the doctor of most of our popular and distinguished celebrity mothers (like Sharon Cuneta, Claudine Barretto, Marjorie Barretto, Angeli Pangilinan-Valenciano, Jessica Rodriguez-Bunevacz, Dawn Zulueta, Charlene Gonzales and Angela Arroyo, among others).
During the celebration, he was given an elaborate testimonial dinner by the UP
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of PGH hosted the prestigious event that gathered the veritable who’s who in the social, medical and entertainment circles, as well as the academe. The program was hosted by Doctors Eileen Manalo and Virgilio Novero. It opened with the heartwarming welcome remarks by Dr. Lourdes Capito, UP-PGH Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology chairman.
Aside from the song number rendered by the youthful Dr. Greg (after he was prevailed upon to render his version of Smile by some of his students), the highlight of the evening were the numerous testimonials delivered by some of the people who are closest to his heart, each one reminiscing how Dr. Greg touched his or her life.
Those who delivered their heartfelt testimonials were Angeli Pangilinan-Valenciano (who is one of Dr. Pastorfide’s closest patients), Clinton Campos-Hess, his business partner Wing Chan (who flew in straight from Singapore), Doctors Florante Gonzaga, Augusto Manalo and Erlinda Germar (all his mentors as a young doctor from the academe), Dr. Ernesto Uichanco, Doctors Angela Aguilar, Lisa Jabson, Jean Toral and Doris Benavides (chief residents during the celebrant’s chairmanship at the department).
Pastorfide was saying he was ready to be “roasted” that night, but he was glad to find himself at the receiving end of adulation and gratitude instead.
“I was never a terror teacher,” he said, explaining why even his students felt free to call him even in the unholy hours just to ask questions and consult with him.
When everyone else said his piece, Dr. Pastorfide thanked everyone, saying, “My years of government service may be coming to an end but certainly not my medical practice, nor my service to the academe.” It was at this juncture where Dr. Pastorfide handed out a check for P1 million as his very own foundation’s contribution to UP-PGH’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
