It’s going to be a granddaughter for Manay Gina
Every person is irreplaceable. As the character Michele Pfeiffer played in the movie Deep End of the Ocean says, someone you’ve lost in your life isn’t like a missing gravy boat in a porcelain china set that you can replace to make the set complete again.
Gina de Venecia knows that she can never fill the void left by her beloved daughter KC in her life. But when she learned that her oldest daughter Carissa Cruz-Evangelista was expecting a baby girl, she was ecstatic.
Late next month, civic leader Gina would become the country’s newest and perhaps the world’s happiest lola.
Carissa’s most anticipated first child is a girl, as revealed by the scan — a most pleasant addition indeed to Mamita Gina’s family. “I am willing to allow Juju to borrow my apo every once in a while,” was her jolly remark to her son-in-law, businessman Juju Evangelista.
To welcome her first apo, grandma Gina and Carissa’s tito, Speaker Joe de Venecia, threw what was the grandest baby shower in the history of the illustrious Vera-Perez clan, with some help from Carissa’s bosom friends: Pinky Tobiano, Anna Katigbak, Karen Tiangco and Jing Castaneda.
The picture perfect event was held on the afternoon of Sunday, July 8, at the sprawling
Mom Carissa, ebullient as ever, was the picture of radiance as her pending motherhood was celebrated by family and friends, which included her associates from the Trade and Industry sector, childhood chums and former schoolmates.
Not to be outdone, the friends of Mamita Gina came in throngs, to give the excited lola dazzling applause as she embraced the whole new world of lolahood.
Equally excited was the Vera-Perez matriarch, Mama Nene, who eagerly anticipates the birth of her 14th great grandchild.
The super cheery event was attended by more than 200 well-wishers. Among them were Ali Sotto, Tessie Coson, Angela Arroyo and kids Mica and Monique, Representatives Ruffy Biazon, Ed Zialcita, Lorna Silverio, Girlie Villarosa and Junie Cua. Also seen were Virgie and Badette Barbers, Emilie Yupangco, Audrey Zubiri, Nona Ricafort and Grace Singson among others. It was a truly wonderful get-together that celebrated motherhood and the incoming birth of a dear, dear child!
And if the baby shower was already as meticulously prepared as this, imagine what the little girl’s first birthday party will be like?
