A coronation in Iloilo

Camille Villar was recently crowned Queen of Jaro for 2006 at the Jaro Plaza in Iloilo.  Camille is the daughter of Sen. Manny Villar and Las Piñas Rep. Cynthia Villar. The event was a celebration of her Ilonggo roots.

Sen. Villar, who was born in Tanza, Iloilo, led his extraordinary path from being a simple fish vendor to an internationally acclaimed entrepreneur to one of the country’s most influential public figures.

The smart, independent, and hardworking Camille just finished her studies at Ateneo. She now manages a franchise of a popular clothing line in Las Piñas as well as contributes in STAR’s YStyle section. 

The coronation was held after a dinner at the Sarabia Hotel hosted by the parents of the Queen. Noli Hans dressed Camille for her coronation which was witnessed by her parents, and brothers Paulo and Mark. Her consort was Alberto Lopez III, son of former Rep. Alberto Lopez and former Governor and Rep. Emily Lopez, who were also in attendance.  The ceremony that had an Arabian Nights theme was also attended by Vice President Noli de Castro, Gina de Venecia, Jose Mari Chan, Justice Secretary Raul Gonzales, Maurice Arcache, Daisy Payumo, Yaying Dragon, Inday del Rosario, Rep. Raul Gonzales Jr., Ambassador Jose Zaide, French Ambassador Gerard Chesnel, Italian Ambassador Rubens Fedele and STAR writer and a former Queen of Jaro herself, Celine Lopez.

Three laws of the court

Nike Philippines launched another basketball campaign that’s set to inspire basketball fanatics all over the country. They introduced the 3Laws of Basketball: Force, Flight and Uptempo.

Their theme revolved around the three styles of play.  Nike collaborated with three of Manila’s most sought after graphics designers – Team Manila, Electrolychee and CollisionTheory – who were able to feature their interpretation of the 3Laws. Three different rooms made guests experience Force, Flight and Uptempo.

DJ Johnny Verse spun hip-hop music all night long as guests checked out the latest Nike designs and enjoyed a whole new look and feel Nike created for one night in Embassy.

Celebrating Canadian flavors

The Embassy of Canada co-sponsored a two week-long Canadian food festival at the Embassy Cuisine, Club and Café at The Fort.  "Flavours of Canada" featured special Canadian fusion menus created by chef Fernando Aracama using Canadian ingredients already available in the domestic market.

Appetizers included deep water Fanny Bay oysters on a half shell served "Three Ways," Canadian beef tenderloin rolls, and spicy Canadian salmon "Dynamite" sticks.  Main courses included a mushroom-rubbed Canadian rib-eye steak, grilled double-cut pork chop spiked with Canadian maple-dried cranberry sauce sided with an apple and rosemary strudel on a parmesan potato gratin, and pan-seared Canadian salmon fillet fused with green tea soba noodles in a soy-braised daikon, leek greens, and Enoki mushroom broth.
