The last survivors of Auschwitz, 75 years later
ISRAEL, Israel— It may have been 75 years ago, but for the survivors of the Holocaust, the memories of life and death in the Nazi death camp remain painfully fresh.
An AFP team met with some of the last survivors of Auschwitz who now live in Israel.
"I wanted to live in order to tell the world — that was my goal. When I am asked 'Who could survive that?' My answer is 'Those who could suffer'. If you couldn't suffer, you walked up to Auschwitz's electric fence, touched it with your hand and you died,” 94-year-old Batcheva Dagan, Auschwitz camp survivor said
Over 1.1 million people lost their lives in the huge 42-square kilometer complex. It remains the most enduring symbol of the Holocaust.
