MANILA, Philippines — Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año said threats in the Philippines are just “misconception” after Australia and the United Kingdom issued travel advisories on some parts of the country.

The travel advisories were issued following a bombing in Cotabato in December and twin blasts at a Catholic church in Jolo town in Sulu in January.

The United Kingdom and Australia warned their citizens against traveling to some areas in Mindanao due to threats of terrorism and kidnapping.

During the launch of the refreshed "It's More Fun in the Philippines" tourism campaign, Año, however, assured the international community that the supposed threats are “isolated and confined.”

He reiterated that it is safe to travel to the Philippines, citing that security forces are deployed to protect tourists.
