Transport strike pushes through in select areas

MANILA, Philippines - Only a few areas will be affected by the strike being staged by transport group Piston in key cities around the country today.

All members of the transport group vowed to ply their usual routes today in Calabarzon, Caraga, Region 10, Socsargen, and Region 11.

Protest-rallies were also held in Baguio City, Bacolod, Cebu, Iloilo and a transport caravan in Santiago City, Isabela.

Piston secretary general George San Mateo said transport strike centers have been set up in Metro Manila, including:

1. Cubao (Aurora Blvd Corner St. Mary)
2. Alabang (near Star Mall Alabang)
3. Sucat-Evacom
4. Baclaran along Roxas Blv (in front of Mc Do)
5. Philcoa
6. Kalayaan corner Kamias, Quezon City
7. Novaliches Bayan (in front of Goldilocks Qurino Hi-Way cor Sarmiento)
8. Monumento (in front of Victory Mall -Ever Grand Central)
9. Near SM Bacoor
10. Angono (near Meralco)

San Mateo's group has been trying to pressure the government to scrap the Oil Deregulation Law and the 12 percent of the expanded-value added tax on petroleum products.
