Piston to gov't: Take over LTO computerization
MANILA, Philippines - Transport group Piston today called on the government to take over the computerization and maintenance of the database at the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
Piston secretary-general George San Mateo said that in the first place, LTO's computerization services should not be handled by a private company.
"Ang panawagan namin after 2013, the government should take over the computerization LTO. They have the resources to run this important service na dapat patakbuhin ng gobyerno," San Mateo told a weekly media forum in Greenhills, San Juan City this morning.
With a private company handling the computer service, San Mateo said there is a danger that it could be used by that firm for its own interest.
"Aside from motive of profit, these businesses can use the vital information from the database to its sister company," San Mateo added.
The Piston head made the appeal after the so-called intra-corporate controversy in Stradcom, a private company handling the LTO's computerization program. Video by John Nulud/Philstar.com Trainee
