Eagles soar over Falcons, capture PCCL crown

- Cris Cayanan -

MANILA, Philippines – The Ateneo Blue Eagles repulsed a persistent Adamson squad in the deciding Game 3, 73-67, to seize their second-straight Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) crown yesterday at The Arena in San Juan City.

The victory has given the Eagles three titles in four years.

The Falcons started out strong on the first half but failed to sustain their offense to succumb to the Eagles, who missed the services of 2010 UAAP finals MVP Ryan Buenafe. The burly guard skipped the tournament to focus on his studies.

Stepping up on Buenafe’s absence were Kirk Long and Nico Salva, who spearheaded Ateneo’s offense with 25 and 24 points, respectively.

Salva was crowned as the tournament’s MVP.

Eric Camson led the Falcons with 15 points while Jan Colina had 13.

The scores:

Ateneo 73 – Long 25, Salva 24, Golla 7, Salamat 7, Austria 5, Monfort 3, Escueta 2, Chua 0, Erram 0, Gonzaga 0, Tiongson 0, dela Cruz 0.

Adamson 67 – Camson 15, Colina 13, Alvarez 12, Nuyles 11, Manyara 6, Cañada 4, Lozada 3, Brondial 2, Stinnett 1, Etrone 0, Galinato 0, Cabrera 0.
