Adjust strategies

The Armed Forces of the Philippines’ primary responsibility is to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country. With the ongoing dispute in Philippine waters and other external threats imposed by other superpower countries, the AFP should adjust its strategies and priorities based on the perceived threats and national security needs.

In prioritizing territorial defense, the AFP should focus on enhancing its capabilities and readiness in safeguarding the country’s land, air and sea territories. This shift may involve strengthening border security, conducting joint exercises with regional allies, investing in surveillance and reconnaissance technologies and deploying forces strategically to deter potential threats. — Rustom San Juan, University of Southern Mindanao, rustomsanjuan02@gmail.com
