Tragic loss

I read with great sorrow that a 105-year-old Acacia was lost in Legazpi City, in what I see is an urban environment. The fault is not of Glenda or any other typhoon. The fault is we just don’t care to look after beautiful trees that mother nature provides  for free.

Like all beautiful things there’s a need for someone looking after them. A timely pruning or trimming would have prevented such a painful loss. Your front page picture ( The Philippine STAR, July 17, 2014) is a clear proof of the great loss.

Will the City Council of Legazpi City or for that matter any city consider such an endeavor and insure our grandchildren will get to see the legacy we cared for? —JUAN JOSE BERENGUER TESTA, Salcedo Village
