New C-130s for relief and rescue

The Department of National Defense’s plan to buy new C-130 planes will certainly be a plus factor in relief efforts of the government, especially so when calamities and tragedies happen. This was seen during the recent calamities, typhoons, earthquake, and the killer typhoon Yolanda last November.

The C-130s of the military were the first to respond to the victims, ferry survivors, bring food and water, relief workers. The C-130s were not as heavy and could reach remote places even at risk. We saw how many people were serviced by the C-130s and how C-130 pilots went on their mission non-stop.

If we could have more C-130s, we will be able to save more people when the time comes. Also, with new equipment, more personnel will be needed to be trained. Young men and women will also be inspired to become C-130 pilots, soldiers and serve their country.

Moreso, the DND says that the new light planes can operate on any environment and provide support in defense, peace and security, disaster response and development. The government has also allotted P814 M for the Light Wing aircraft. This is a very good development and we hope more and more equipment will strengthen our Armed Forces of the Philippines as they fulfill their mission. – Mercy Lynne B. Rustia, Sct.
