I think we must come to terms with the realization that we need a National Identification System. If only we had a National ID, as typhoon Yolanda victims are now experiencing, there would be no difficulties in identifying recipients, be much easier to receive relief goods and other necessities due them.
Much more, it would be quick by agencies concerned to account for the missing, and the processing of victim’s documents will not take longer, and they will have easy access to government rehabilitation programs if they are properly identified.
We have seen that even in the midst of the calamity, many unscrupulous individuals have posed to be victims or volunteers in order to get relief goods. Also, we will never know if some victims who line up for government grants for building new homes and livelihood opportunities are really one of the victims.
I think the government should push for the implementation of the National ID for many good reasons such as this one. Having a proper, documented government ID would prove more beneficial. – Lou B. Sistoza, Jr., Sta. Mesa, Manila
