I am just wondering why our lawmakers are not voicing out their opinions or have made their voices be heard regarding the Scarborough Shoal dispute. It is now time for them to get involved for they represent the people and our nation. They have been so engrossed in other matters of lesser concern that perhaps they have neglected the Scarborough issue.
We are fortunate that our people are now more aware of the threat and have aired their sentiments through letters to the editors calling for unity in action against the Chinese incursions of Philippine territory. Even the communists have sent a strong message to their fellow Chinese communists to “scram” out of the Shoal and the other disputed areas. We likewise expect lawmakers to do the same.
I am sure that what they will say will not be thrown like dust in the air for they are well-respected and people look up to them since they hold high positions in the government and could influence our decision-makers if it is for the interest of our nation.
I think today and until the problem lasts, our lawmakers should be there for us. — MARIO H. BENTIL, Tacloban City
