MANILA, Philippines — Gagawin ni Pinoy world champion Melvin Jerusalem ang kanyang mandatory title defense kontra kay Mexican challenger Luis Angel Castillo sa Linggo sa Mandaluyong City College Gym.

Sinabi ni Jerusalem, ang reigning World Boxing Council (WBC) minimumweight king, na napag-aralan na nila ang mga galaw ni Castillo.

“Pagka-champion pa lang ni Melvin alam na namin na siya (Castillo) ‘yung mandatory, kaya nag-ready na kami,” ani trainer Michael Domingo kahapon sa Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum sa Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.

Bitbit ng 30-anyos na si Jerusalem ang 22-3-0 win-loss-draw ring record tampok ang 12 knockouts, habang dala ng 27-anyos na si Castillo ang 21-0-1 (13 KOs) card.

Nakamit ni Jerusalem ang WBC minimumweight belt matapos ang via split decision laban kay Japanese Yudai Shigeoka sa Nagoya noong Marso.

Nangako si Castillo na dadalhin niya ang korona ni Jerusalem pauwi ng Mexico City.

“I know this is going to be a tough fight, but I know we will emerge victorious. And I want to tell the champion here that he should enjoy his days as a world champion,” ani Castillo sa pamamagitan ng interpre­ter sa sesyon na inihandog ng San Miguel Corporation, Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee, MILO, Smart/PLDT at ng 24/7 sports app ArenaPlus.

Ngunit walang balak isuko ni Jerusalem ang kan­yang titulo.

“Enjoy-in mo nalang ang pag-stay mo sa Pilipinas, makikita nalang natin sa laban,” sagot ng tubong Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon sa Mexican fighter.

Samantala, lalaban si dating IBF super flyweight titlist Jerwin Ancajas sa main undercard katapat si Sukpraserd Ponpitak ng Thailand.
