Golf tourney raises funds for schools nationwide

MANILA, Philippines - Playing golf is more than bringing one’s competitive spirit to fore or leisurely enjoying the company of pals and business partners. For the men and women of Philam Life, taking their turns on the fairway is a form of leisure that aims to bring smiles to the faces of school children in various parts of the country.

Philam Life, the largest, the leading, and the most trusted life insurance company in the Philippines, recently staged The Golf Invitational by the Philam Group of Companies: Golf for a Cause Tournament at the Orchard Golf and Country Club in Dasmariñas, Cavite as part of its year-long celebration of its 65th anniversary. The event aimed to raise funds for Philam Foundation’s flagship education project, the “Philam Paaralan Program,” an initiative made possible through the collaboration of Philam Foundation and the Department of Education (DepEd).

The Philam Paaralan Program, part of Philam Life’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, aims to build fully furnished classrooms to underserved communities nationwide.

“We built eight classrooms in Isabela in 2011, and this year, we will open six more in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan, both of which were devastated Typhoon Sendong,” says Rex Mendoza, president and chief executive officer of Philam Life. “This tournament not only helped us achieve this noble objective, but also served to highlight the company’s core values of integrity, passion for excellence, malasakit, and kusang-loob.”

Philam Life fulfills its corporate social responsibility through the Philam Foundation. Established in 1997, Philam Foundation envisions an educated nation empowered for the future. Towards this end, the Foundation mobilizes the resources of member companies—such as Integra Business Processing Solutions, Inc., BPI-Philam Life Assurance Corp., Philam Asset Management, Inc., Philam Properties Corp. and Philam Insurance Agency and Call Center Services, Inc. — to provide real and enhanced education for the Filipino youth, for better health, financial literacy and sustainable environment.
