MANILA, Philippines - The Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) has flexed its muscle and grabbed four of the top spots in the civil engineering board exam, bagging the first, sixth, ninth and 11th places.
Ruben Llagas took first place with a 96.30 percent score in a tie with UP Los Baños (UPLB) graduate Bryan Yulo Dela Cruz. The three other PUP topnotchers were Jaypee Dabela Maquinad, 93.8 percent (6th), Conrad Agarin Flores, 92.85 percent (9th), and Heherson Lacasandile Gaela (11th).
Forty-four other PUP examinees passed the exam to register a 44.34 passing percentage for the country’s biggest state university in terms of tertiary population, higher than the national passing rate of 38.34 percentage.
PUP president Dr. Dante Guevarra immediately congratulated the new PUP civil engineers, especially the topnotchers, their dean, Manuel Muhi and their department chairperson, Prof. Guillermo Bernabe. “This impressive performance of our graduates only shows that our university has one of the best engineering schools in the country today,” Guevarra pointed out.
