Xavier Nuvali gets major benefactor

MANILA, Philippines - On December 16, 2010, Xavier School signed the official deed of donation with Richard L. Lee, chairman emeritus of Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc. (HARI), who is sponsoring the construction of the student center in the new campus in Nuvali, Calamba, Laguna. In addition, HARI is also providing the funds for the main school library housed within the same building.

In appreciation of this generous support, Xavier School is naming the building after the donor’s parents, the Anthony and Justa Lee Student Center. Anthony P. Lee (+) is recognized as one of the pioneers in the local automotive industry, having established assembly operations for Mercedes Benz and Datsun (Nissan). The library will be named the Samuel L. Lee Library, after Richard Lee’s brother who passed away as a young adult.

The student center is a two-story, 3,900-sqm building situated at the center of the 15-hectare campus in Nuvali, the innovative eco-living development of Ayala Land that is seven times the size of the Makati Central Business District. It will also house the 1,000-seater multipurpose hall on the second floor. The building design was awarded to Arch. Bong Recio of Rchitects, Inc. and construction is scheduled to commence this April and will be completed in the last quarter of 2011. This will be one of four main buildings to be constructed in the first phase of the campus development.

Richard Lee studied in Xavier School at the old campus in Echague, Manila. Both his sons Bryan Anthony (1992) and Matthew Francis Richard (2006) are Xavier alumni. The new school is targeted to open in June 2012. For more information, email xsnuvali@my.xs.edu.ph or call the Registrar at 7230481 loc 385.
